one example of foreshadowing in the short story "the man who loved flowers" is on page 453. It is quoted " The young man crossed Sixty-third Street, walking with a bounce in his step and that same half-smile on his lips." This is focused on the fulfilment of foreshadowing because on page 460 it is stated that "He began to smile. A bounce came into his step as he walked on down Seventy-third Street." This goes to show

Another example of foreshadowing is on pg. 454; "...passed the flower stand and the sound of bad new faded. He hesitated, looked over his shoulder, and thought it over. He reached into his coat pocket and touched the something in there again...his face seemed puzzled, lonely, almost haunted...hand left his pocket, it regained its former expression of eager expectation". The "something" mentioned in this quote causes clear emotional responses, like haunted and puzzled. As a reader, this causes you to feel suspicious about him because why would he carry something that causes him to feel so disturbed. Also, why would passing a flower stand make him want to check his pocket and touch something that may or may not have a dark purpose, based on his expression.

One instance of foreshadowing in the short story, "The Man Who Loved Flowers." is on page 458 where it was written ,"Now the stars were out, gleaming softly, and the lane was dark and shadowy, lined with vague shadows of garbage cans. The young man was alone now - no, not quite. A wavering yowl rose in purple gloom, and the young man frowned. It was some tomcat's love song, and there was nothing pretty about that.". During this the scene becomes way more dark and uneasy, this foreshadows that the scene is now changing becoming more alien and different from what the original feeling the story gave to the reader. When you think of a love song you think of something beautiful, heart warming, romantic. But the way the man said that nothing is pretty about the tomcat's love song really changes the view on the story he seems like hes disgusted or has some sort of distaste of the tomcat's love song. With this new information we may see the man's actions differently. For example when we first see the actions the man made, you would generally think he is in love, but after the fact you learn he thinks the tomcat's love song is not pretty and he seems more disgusted, it may foreshadow that the man's definition of love might not be pretty too maybe even angry and violent. Also the fact that now he seems alone in a dark places really foreshadows either a tragic ending or something bad is going to happen in the story. This is one example of Foreshadowing.

The title of the story itself "The Man Who Loved Flowers" is an example of foreshadowing. As a reader it is clear to see that the author uses foreshadowing through the title when he uses the word "loved". We know that the word loved is past tense so we begin to wonder why he doesn't love flowers anymore.
