Summary: This story is about a man who starts off with an overcoat and wears it until it becomes old and worn. When he can no longer wear it as an overcoat he then uses that material to make a jacket. After the jacket becomes too old to wear, he makes a vest. he continues to do this until in the end all he has left is a button from the fabric. One day he looses the button and realizes he has nothing left. He then decides to write a story about this to show that you can always make something out of nothing.
Interdisciplinary Connections:
Math: I would read this story with my class and then talk to them about fractions.  We would talk about how the man took fractions of the clothing he had and made something new from it.  The students would then be given a fraction book where they would be able to complete simple problems.
Language Arts: I would then talk to my students about the sequencing of events.
