Arco británico

Fue regalado a Valparaíso en el año 1910, por la colonia británica residente en Valparaíso, y lo inauguraron en el año 1911.

Lo regalaron los británicos, con el motivo del 150 Aniversario de la Independencia de Chile y a 425 años del descubrimiento de Valparaíso.

En su parte superior está el león británico victoriano hecho en bronce, los escudos de Chile y Gran Bretaña también decoran este monumento.

Del mismo modo, el Reino Unido ha sido uno de los países que más ha influido en el deporte mundial. Numerosos deportes se inventaron en el Reino Unido, entre ellos el fútbol, rugby, tenis, cricket, golf, hockey sobre césped y tenis de mesa.

English influence on education in Chile: The Association of British Schools in Chile or Association of British Schools in Chile (ABSCH) is an association of bilingual schools in that country with the characteristics of having similar educational objectives, which encourages good educational practices and constructive interaction among students from the various member schools, through academic, cultural and sporting events. ABSCH was founded on November 25, 1977 with seven founding members. Currently, it has twenty member schools: ten are located in the Metropolitan Region, four in Viña del Mar, two in Concepción, one in Antofagasta, one in Casablanca, one in La Serena and one in Punta Arenas. en el año 1857 se formó el primer colegio en Chile, éste basaba completamente su estructura educacional en el diseño británico. No solo su fundación causo un hito en la historia de Valparaíso, si no que además durante sus años de enseñanza en la región proporcionó al país y a Sudamérica grandes políticos, comerciantes y empresarios. Pasos que siguieron algunos residentes británicos en Valparaíso al fundar el colegio St. Margaret British School for Girls y algunos más fundados en la región

A mediados del año 1889, el periodista David N. Scott, uno de los precursores del fútbol en Chile y primer presidente de la Football Association of Chile, decidió reunir a un grupo de inmigrantes ingleses de Valparaíso con la idea de formar un club para reunir al creciente número de aficionados al deporte.

Viña del Mar Lawn Tennis Club: Su historia se remonta a 1864 en Valparaiso, cuando un grupo de inmigrantes, mayoritariamente ingleses, fundan el Club ingles de tennis (entre ellos la familia Hardy y Sutherland).
Construyeron otra cancha ante el interes y demanda por la practica de este deporte.

Los ingleses tuvieron una importante presencia en Valparaíso, durante el siglo XIX. Y dejaron su marca, los ingleses fueron quienes trajeron el fútbol a Chile? Así es. De hecho, el primer club de fútbol nacional es el Santiago Wanderers, que fue fundado en Valparaíso en 1896 y que hoy sigue activo.

We can find British influence in mining, railway, maritime infrastructure, and many industrial applications predominated in Chile in the last half of the 19th century, continuing through the 1930s.

In Manuel Fernández' book named "Technology and British Nitrate Enterprises in Chile, 1880-1914" we can see details of some of the British technology that was contributed to the development of the Chilean mining industry.

There was similar benefits in the railway and meat-processing industries. Many of the British engineers and technicians who came to Chile to support British equipment, stayed in the country.

Even the Chilean modern system of lighthouses was the result of British technology: towards the end of the 19th century, a Scottish engineer, George Slight, designed and constructed 70 lighthouses, most of which are still in operation.

Una de las costumbres importadas por los británicos fue el consumo del té. Los ingleses de paso por el Puerto sufrían cuando eran invitados por los chilenos, quienes les ofrecían yerba mate. La idea de compartir la bombilla del único recipiente de la infusión con los demás asistentes les estremecía. La sociedad porteña captó aquel desaire y decidió adoptar la tradición británica. Tomar mate pasó a ser signo de mala educación y de falta de higiene.

Otra de las costumbres heredadas de los ingleses fueron las carreras de caballo a la inglesa que se hacían en Placilla, formándose en 1865 la asociación Valparaíso Spring Meeting. La forma de jugar podía ser europea, pero luego se celebraba a la chilena con fiestas campestres, comida típica local y mucho alcohol.

Fernanda s: El fútbol desembarcó en Valparaíso a fines del siglo XIX, época en que los marinos e inmigrantes ingleses impresionaban a los porteños con apasionantes juegos en malecones y potreros. Al poco tiempo, un periodista y dos comerciantes ingleses reunieron a los clubes para organizar una Football Association of Chile con su respectiva competencia (19 de junio de 1895). La práctica de este deporte fue cautivando a los chilenos, surgiendo así los primeros clubes nacionales: Santiago Wanderers, Santiago National, Rangers y otras improvisadas agrupaciones de norte a sur, que difundieron la práctica del fútbol en diversas competencias amateur.
