Nursing in this time period led to advancements in medical care, helping to shape the future of nursing care. With the discovery of insulin in 1922, the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS) in 1925 due to improvements made in public health nursing for women, children, and infants, as well as the discovery of penicillin in 1928 to aide in treatment for patients with infection.

This was done either because the mother had passed away, was unable to produce milk to be able to nurse, or the mother chose not to nurse. The Movie "The Good Nurse" portrays a true story of an ICU nurse who becomes close to a new nurse starting on her unit to later find out he was involved in the deaths of multiple patients. In comparison to the other images and portrayals of nursing over many centuries, this goes completely against what nursing is truly about. Nursing is about caring for the ill and helping them heal, not intentionally ending their lives.

St. Denis Medical is a new TV show new to NBC this fall. It is a "mockumentary" type TV show that follows a group of healthcare workers at a local hospital portraying real life situations that can occur in a hospital setting with exaggeration. In comparison to the other images, while the show is based on fiction and not real life as the other images represent, it brings life and laughter to what we all sometimes think and go through working in the healthcare field.

This assignment and the timeline of nursing from as early as the 16th century to now, shows how far nursing care and medical treatment have come. From nurses back in the early war days treating and caring for patients with little knowledge or training to the advancements in education and specialized areas of concentration there are to choose from today, shows that from little knowledge grows learning from mistakes and trials to improve.
