If the bacteria responsible for meningococcal disease, Neisseria Meningitidis, is present in the sample then they can be cultured.

"Global etiology of bacterial meningitis"
A systemic review and meta-analysis were conducted to identify the potential regional cause of bacterial meningitis which is known to be caused by 7 different bacteria. It was concluded that Neisseria Meningitidis and Streptococcus Pneumoniae were prevalent throughout all age ranges and regions. N. meningitidis was concluded to be common in European children between the ages 1 to 5. Conclusively, the data helps promote prevention and treatment in certain regions and age ranges.
