Although most Latinx people are willing to take the vaccine there is still a good portion of young Latinx that are still hesitant about the vaccine and its effectiveness. Community efforts are being made in order to reach and to take into account these individuals. Latinx people are less likely to get the vaccine compared to their white counterparts. 71% of Latinx people are likely to get the vaccine where 36% will “definitely get the vaccine”, 35% of Latinx people will “probably get the vaccine”, 8% probably not getting it”, and 18% “definitely not getting the vaccine”.

In a pool of nationwide studies, investigators found that COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy rates were among the highest in Latinx individuals. Sociodemographic factors such as income, level of education, gender, etc. were said to be the cause for these findings. Mistrust with the healthcare system, and racism are also a prominent basis as to why some may not get vaccinated. There are also more instances where the Latinx population and other communities of color maybe exposed to inadequate information and myths regarding the vaccine.

Covid 19 vaccination accessibility has also been a clear indicator pertaining to low vaccination status in communities of color. Many States and counties made efforts to recognize COVID-19 disparities and accessibility by placing vaccination sites in pharmacies within heavily impacted communities. However, their efforts came up short due to the fact that a lot of Latinx communities are also pharmacy deserts. These communities may also have independently owned pharmacies which do not have the capacity or availability to administer an adequate amount of vaccines within these communities.

There are also instances in which vaccination sites are placed within these communities but wealthy whites from different areas occupy most of the available appointments.

Internet access may also be an indicator for low vaccine rates seeing as though scheduling appointments are mostly online.
