The genre of x-factor is a talent show. The visual style of x-factor is totally dependant of the song that is on however the results/ reward show is a golden theme as it represents winning so it fits perfectly for the rewards show.

The action covered in x-factor is of a wide variety there is a rage of performances as well as an in depth look at the judges panel and the backstage area this give a more in depth look into the show and makes you feel like you are actually there.

The meaning communicated to the viewer is determined by what is happening on stage at the time for example if one of the contestants are telling a sad back story the vision mixer will use a close up to show the emotion they have when telling the story and the cuts ill be a lot slower where as if there is an up beat song being performed the cuts will be more snappy and most likely be in time with a beat.

The techniques used to maintain the audiences interest goes back to the vision mixer as they change the cuts depending on what is happening in the moment.

What i had to do as the director was making sure that all the people in the gallery was doing their jobs correctly as well as ensuring that all of the of the cameras was in the correct positions and are doing their job correctly. I also had to control all of the adverts and VTs. I think the whole show went well as there was a lot of co operation between myself and the floor manager so we was able to make everything go smoothly.
