The Author made it Crystal Clear to her son in-law that a man should be head of the Family, he should find a Job and provide for his Family, This is because the Chinese believes that a man and Women both have different roles based on their Gender. The narrator believed that a woman should cook,clean and take care of the husband and the child. She also shows that gender roles are important to her when she tries to enforce obedience,shame and respect to authority on Sophie.
