Why I think teaching digital citizenship is important.

I think digital citizenship is important because most things have gone digital. If it is not being taught then future generations can fall behind. Most classes can be taken digitally, TV shows and movies have gone to streaming services, and everything is evolving to a digital format. Children should not be set back from the future world and should be taught the responsible way to use technology.

The activity I would have my students do is Internet Traffic Light.

First, we are going to watch a video about internet safety.
After the video, we are going to go over vocabulary words such as caution and risky.
Next, we are going to play Internet Traffic Light. On the board there will be different scenarios that pop up. If it is a safe option then it will be green meaning go. If it is a somewhat safe option, but we still need to be cautious then it is yellow meaning look around. If it is unsafe and needs an adult then it is a red option meaning stop and raise your hand for an adult.
As the scenarios pop up, think if it is a green, yellow, or a red option. Either walk for green, look around for yellow, or stop and raise your hand for red.
After the game is over, we will go over what we learned during the game and think about what we learned for internet safety.
