In September of 1945 the most desturctive war in human history had ended. With a death toll rangin from 70-85 million the impact of this war on the world was immense. The damage caused by the war would lead to the waning of European domination as now they'd have to spent tons of resources rebuilding. Although in other places in the world it would create two world super powers, the Soviet Union and the United States. Now these two countries renewed rivalry caused by having opposite philosophies in almost all ways would cause them to go into conflict.

Following the end of WW2 the intense rivalry between the Soviety Union and the United Sates divided them once again. Each power decided in order to protect themselves from eachothers influence was to create military alliances. The United states created NATO in 1949 to unify Western Europe, Canada, itself and parts of the Middle East against the Soviets Union. The Soviets then to counter this created the Warsaw Pact in 1955 which united its Soviet puppet states in Eastern Europe with itself. These allances would then create the Soviet and American spheres of influences which would continue throughout the Cold War.

Beginning in 1950, North Korea had begun its invasion of South Korea. Initially the war was very successful for North Korea as they almost occupied the entire peninsula. In June of 1950 the United States decided to get involved due to the fear that if Korea fell to Communism so to could their ally Japan and a domino effect would occur which could leave all of Asia or possibly the world Communist. So to prevent this President Truman decided to aid South Korea. With initial setback the now US and UN forces began to push back North Korea to their Chinese border where in October of 1950 China got much more involved as they feared having NATO on their doorstep. The Soviets had also begun to further supply both Chinese and North Korean armies with equipment. intense fighting would continue until 1953 which would see a stalemate occur and the peninsula would be divided between the Communist North Korea led by Kim Il-Sung and the Democratic South Korea led by Rhee Syng-man.

Vietnam had been split between a Communist north and Democratic(ish) south (similar to Korea). Communists had been operating in South Vietnam along with an invasion by the North Vietmenese (Viet Cong) in 1955 to unite both halves. This would see the US get involved in order to prevent their fear of the domino effect from occuring. The US sent support to South Vietnam in 1961. The fighting would brutally continue until 1975 due to the US leaving Veitnam as many in the US heavily protested the war. This showed that even though the US was powerful, it wasn't invincible and could be defeated.

Cuba had been a Communist country led by Fidel Castro since the early 1960s which was meant with lots of American hostility. Due to the threat of Cuba possibly getting new management and since Cuba was stategically good; the Soviets under Nikita Kkhushchev sent nuclear warheads to Cuba. The US caught onto this and decided to blockade Cuba in order to prevent anymore nuclear warheads from being sent to Cuba. The world held its breath as an exchange of nuclear bombs felt imminent but a deal struck by the US President John F. Kennedy and Khrushchev solved the crisis. They US agreed to leave Cuba alone and take its nuclear weapnry out of Turkey. The Soviets agreed to take their nuclear weaponry out of Cuba. The world had sighed a great sigh of relief as nuclear armaggedon was avoided.

Following many disagreements between the 2 Communist powers of China and the Soviet Union due to reasons of land disputes, ideological differences, and a rivalry of leadership caused them to end their cooperation. The last straw between the 2 had been much later in 1979 when the Soviets refused to give the Chinese atomic bomb prototypes. This would isolate the Soviets from the other powerful Communist country and would weaken their sphere of influence worldwide.

Beginning in 1921 the fight between the Communist and Nationalist groups of China began. Although it had been put on hold due to the Japanese invasion it recontinued in 1946. Due to the Japanese invasion much of the land the Nationalists occupied had been destroyed. The revolution ended (mostly) with a Communist victory in 1949, creating the official Communist Chinese State with Mao Zedong as its leader. This revolution would cause the Cold War to heat up as it would worry US as the size of China's population worried them. It also gave the Soviets an ally temporarily throughout the conflict.

Following many reforms made by Mikhail Gorbechev the Soviet people were given many new freedoms. They were able to buy Western goods and view Western media. They could have free elections and were free to say what they wanted. This new freedom lead many of the Soviet Republics to push for further independance from the Kremlin. Some even had revolutions to remove their Communist government. Slowly but surely these Soviet Republics declared independance from the Soviet Union and in December of 1991 Gorbechav resigned from his position. With that the Soviet Union ended and the Russian Federation led by Boris Yeltsin had begun. The United States had won the Cold War.

In 1956 the Hungarian people decided to rebel against the Stalinist governemnt in Hungary. The revolution was initiated by Hungarian students who formed militias for it. The revolution was a success and the people esablished a government with free elections and anti-communist ideals. That was until the Soviet army later invaded and restablished a Communist Government. This showed the Western world how oppressive the Soviet Union truly was and furthered their disliking of it. This would of course further their dislike when later on other countries such as Czechoslovakia and Poland would have similar movements occur in them.

With the creation of Israel after WW2 many Arab and Islamic countries were extremely upset with this and decided to delcare war on the country. During the war Israel had begun an invasion of the Sinai peninsula in Egypt. As they moved through with the help of the British and French they took the Suez Canal from the Egyptians which caused lots of tension as the Suez Canal was an important shipping lane worldwide. The British and French wanted to occupy it as the wanted to retain control as Egypt's president Gamal Abdel Nasser had nationalized the Suez Canal Company. This occupation would end as both the US and Soviet Union pressured the UK and France to withdraw. Eventually they would withdraw. This event showed then end of Britain as a world power since now they had to answer to another, the US.

Afghanistan at the time had been under the control of a Communist govenment and had close relations with the Soviet Union. Following very radical reforms which gave women much more autonomy and freedom many of the more religious and conservsative people in Afganistan were so angry at this that they rebelled against the Communist government. The Soviets would send military aid to the Afghans but it was in vain. The Soviets were truly never able to defeat all resistance and eventually occupation of Afghanistan was too costly on them and their army so they left. The reason the Afghan rebels were so successful is due to a mix of knowledge of the terrain and American military and economic support to the locals. This would see Soviet influence out of Afghanistan and give them an experience simillar to what the US had in Vietnam.
