When he was 16, a secret police force arrested him for being accused of hoping to escape to china. The police officers were arresting him with brutal treatment. His mother was also arrested by being framed by her business associates. He was sentenced to a labor camp for an unknown duration. Do be aware that he was 16 at the time of this arrest. This shows that the North Korean government doesn't care how old you are as a teenager, you'll get the same punishment as any other adult. During his sentence in the prison/labor camp, he was mostly fed only steamed corn and worked for several hours. The teenage prisoner also had suicidal thoughts and depression during that harsh time. He mentions how children can never go to school because of the marketable items you had to pay to the school. When it was harvest or planting season, the farmer and his co-workers would take a 3 hour walk to the fields. No cars, no tractors. They would then take a little break just to eat lunch. This shows that the farmers have barely any break time. The farmer begins to talk about how you said if you wanted to go to China, there'd be eyes EVERYWHERE. A government informant would inform the Secret Police about your actions of "Treason" and you'd be taken away. He also says that some people would just want to snitch on you.
