SUMMARY: The Salton Sea in California is drying up due to climate change, rising temperatures, and a lack of water. The Salton Sea is filled by runoff from farms, and as a result of that, there are a lot of chemicals and salts in the water. As the lake has dried up, many of those chemicals are being exposed and blown into communities around the lake. This has historically been a tourist destination but many of the jobs have left and people in poverty remain.

ANALYSIS/EXPLANATION: People are experiencing increases in health issues as they are exposed to the toxins in the lakebed. They are going to have to pay additional costs for healthcare. If the Salton Sea is refilled, it is estimated that it will cost $90 billion for the project. Many of the people who live around the Salton Sea rely on it for jobs, such as farming and tourism. With the lake losing water and health issues arising, people are leaving, and so are the jobs. In Baja California there is a delta. A lush by the gulf used to have a lot of water to support the vegetation and people living there. Both the U.S. Government and the M.X. Government worked together to restore life in the delta. The U.S. proceeded to save water for the old lush in Mexico. A dam sends pulses of water that lasts for about eight weeks.

This relates to the politics side of diffusion. This can be seen because it shows what the government/s do to take action. The Governments worked together to restore the delta with water. Along the ribbon of water called the Central Arizona Project there is saguaro cacti. The project has been called the ultimate in desert stupidity. The project has to pump 1.5 million acre feet of water into Tuscon. The Colorado River is pumped into the community and has turned a poor community into a self-sufficient farming community with almost no unemployment.In two years a 38 percent unemployment rate had dropped to 4 percent.

There are millions of gallons of water that are filled with arsenic, lead, and many other toxic metals everyday. These toxic metals are from mining sites lead into lakes, and streams. Most of these waters are not treated. It has been found that these materials have been poisoning aquatic life, and tainted drinking water sources in at least nine states.

This reading falls into the economic side of diffusion because the money is used to fix the problems at hand. Taxpayer dollar are used to treat water or capture waste in water. 55% of water used in Palm Springs, California comes from the Colorado river. The Palm Springs Resort has two waterfalls, and a 30 feet deep lagoon. The resort has 900 rooms with low flowing toilets and showers. water is used on a golf course to keep it green. 

The Los Angeles city council says that there are so many better ways to use water in their state. The council has said that because they are dealing with one of the greatest water shortages in their history.  Only eight golf courses uses reclaimed sewage water out of ninety golf courses. The Glen canyon dam made cold water releases that messed up aquatic life. People release species in the dam. The trout is a native species and without it the dam wouldnt survive. Humpback chop move from the Colorado river to the Glen Canyon and it is not good for them.

This video goes into the Environment category because of the wildlife in the Grand Canyon. The people at the Grand Canyon are trying to keep Humpbacks alive and safe. By taking Humpbacks out of the cold water Glen Canyon to the Grand Canyon this saves humpback lives. Within four years the lake has lost enough water to not be able to support California. This loss of water threatens water supplies to Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson, Denver, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque. Droughts have been because of the lack of precipitation. But one third of the flow decline was likely due to higher temperatures in the Colorado River’s Upper Basin.

Water had been evaporated too fast and the lake lost a lot of water. There has been a mega drought for the past 20 years. The environment has risen in temperature by 5°F. The Navajo nation does not have running water in households. The only available water is from wells and pumps. These wells and pumps make people sick. People are getting sick from the well water because the government used to have uranium mines there for atomic bombs. The government is not paying for ways to get running water in households. The people are having to conserve water by reusing it for hygiene. 

A lady named Darlene fills a tanker truck and takes it through the Navajo. She gives people water for those who need it. Most people in the Navajo do not have near access to a water source and most don't have access to a car. The community helps with fundraisers, taking water around town, and reusing water.

Lake Powell is a massive tourist attraction. The lake has been dropping water levels every year. The main job for residents is working for the attraction. Whether working for the lake means retail or other recreational activities. The lower levels of water are lowering the economy for the entirety of Page, Arizona.

The story of lake Powell relates to the economic side of diffusion. This is proved by the economic state of Page, Arizona. The lake's water level has been dropping drastically.
