We are just the beginning, but not really the beginning because water is constantly recycled and our student teachers come to us with their own story. The knowledge we generate is the drops that land in the large expanse of water, creating ripple effects that reach far beyond us.

Okay, so 99.9% of the time I feel ITE is about community, caring, inclusive and inspiring - all to enable the best possible outcomes for our children and young people. But, look at the eyes, the EYES! There are challenges and complexities, so we always need to stay one step ahead, and stay together.

Lighthouses keep people safe and steer them well.

Our aim is to keep our student teachers safe, steer them in the right direction, leaving them free to roam knowing that we are a sanctuary and will be there for them to come back to if they need support. Staying steady in all weathers.

What we do in ITE is all about partnership. Our web stretches wide. It could be seen as fragile but it is strong and quite beautiful. It’s all about connection and interconnection.

It is about the student teachers - showing them how to bring the subject to life and demonstrating how to inspire students to have a love for our subject.

What ITE means to me… when I trainee our tutor asked us to pick a pebble from a tray. This represents how we are part of a complex but rewarding and challenging profession and we will need to guide our student teachers through this before letting them go free and explore

Teacher development and knowledge growth is what its all about for me! Here is a drawing a trainee did on the first day of the course showing what type of history teacher she wanted to be. The right hand drawing is the same student on the last day of the course. It just shows the growth in terms of pedagogic content knowledge and general professional knowledge.
