My understanding of the American Dream is that anyone can make it in America. America is the land of opportunity for many. It doesn't matter who you are or where you are from you have equal opportunity. To achieve the American Dream you need to put in lots of hard work and effort. Sometimes you need to put in more work than other people do. Others may have it easier than you put if you work harder you can achieve better than they will.

I interviewed my US History teacher Mr. Rook. He describes his term of the American Dream as “Equal opportunity but not equal effort.” When he grew he wanted to become a zoologist. Mr. Rook's American Dream is to “Live a comfortable life, support my family, and be able to do the things I want to do before I die. His American Dream was influenced by his Father and Grandfather. Mr. Rook says his own hopes and dreams have come true "because I’m able to achieve goals that I set for myself through hard work and effort." Mr. Rook believes that America is still a land of opportunity and he also believes that some can come back from falling short of their dreams.

The first piece of evidence from the song to support the American Dream is "Tell them put the money in my hand right now, Tell the promoter we need more seats, We just sold out all the floor seats." This shows that Kanye, a feature in the song, was able to become successful in America. He is doing what he wants and being able to sell out shows. "Take me on a trip, I'd like to go someday, Take me to New York, I'd love to see L.A." is the second piece of evidence to support the American Dream. This says that Estelle wants to go to America and see all of the big cities. Estelle believes in the American Dream as she wants to tour America.

Immigrant Perspectives: The American Dream

In the video many immigrants are asked about their perspectives on the American Dream. They see the American Dream as freedom and being what they want to be. For example, Elena states "I know that I would not be where I am today if I was in Russia especially because being a queer Women that is not acceptable back home." They also see America as the land of opportunity. They believe that you don't need to have anything and to live up to the American Dream you need to work. Another example, Manny believes "You don't need to have anything, you can study hard, work hard, put in the time, put in effort and you will get there." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNMU-y_lnGc

This article further supports my thesis on the American Dream. I believe that the American Dream is achievable through hard work. To back my point the article states "Although it’s not easy to achieve the American dream, with passion, hard work and dedication, it is very possible to achieve." The American Dream is the equal opportunity for everyone to achieve their goals. Also stated in the article "The American dream is the ideal that every us citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative." These pieces of evidence further show support to my thesis that the American Dream is alive and well. https://writingourfuture.nwp.org/americancreed/responses/672-is-the-american-dream-still-achievable
