I always ask why I am a Filipino when I could be a citizen in a richer country. If only I was born in a richer country, life would be easy. I wouldn't mind going to hospital because it's free. I wouldn't worry about my tuition. I wouldn't worry about low salary. I wouldn't spend my whole life working my ass off. I wouldn't feel inferior from other countries' citizens. I could do what makes me happy without worrying about money.

But as I watch the news these days and saw countries who suffer more than Philippines in terms of war and poverty, I somehow felt lucky for being a Filipino. Philippines may be poor and as a citizen, I might also be poor, but at least we're free and safe.

I'm always perplexed as to why I'm a Filipino when I could be a citizen of a more prosperous country. Life would be simpler if I were born in a more prosperous country. I'm not opposed to going to the hospital because it's free. I wouldn't be concerned about paying my tuition. I wouldn't be concerned about the low pay. I wouldn't work my tail off for the rest of my life. I would not feel inferior to citizens of other countries. I'd be able to do whatever made me happy without having to worry about money.
