This story i about a donkey named Sylvester who loved pebbles. One day Sylvester was by the stream of water and found a magic pebble which answered his wishes!!! Sylvester wished to be a rock while holding this magic red pebble and his wishes were answered. He was a rock and he could not talk so his parents were worried sick. One day they went on a picnic and found which turned out to be Sylvester. His parents wish to have him back while holding the rock and he appears.
This book would be used to show a student should be grateful for what they have instead of wishing for things you do not have. In the end the only thing Sylvester wants is his family, so it teaches to cherish family while you have them until it is too late.
Steig, W. Sylvester and the Magic
Pebble. New York: Simon and
Shuster, Inc.
