In some schools they even cut the pay of married women because they did not need the money as much as a single teacher due to their dependance on their husbands. (VERY INTERESTING)

  • Before the Great Depression 9 states had work ban laws on married women but by 1940, 26 states restricted these women in state government jobs.
  • "Marriage bars were designed not only to reserve employment opportunities for men, but to ensure that unmarried women without families to support were kept in the lowest paying, least prestigious positions."
  • Black women had fewer marriage bars but they had less access!
