Review: This book Hidden Figures is a wonderful book about 4 women who used their minds to help with the space race. The message of this book is meant for everyone. No matter the color of your skin and gender identity you are able to do anything in the world. 
Age/Audience: The age level for this book is geared towards 4-8 year olds. The grade level suitable for this read is ranging from Preschool- 3rd grade.
Connect to Serravallo: This book can be connected to the strategy 5.27; analyzing historical contexts. This book would be great for this because it takes place during an important time in history. The student will be able categorize the historical issues and define them.

Review: Let the Children March books is a must read especially now in our society. It is a book about racial inequality of blacks. This book is great for children to learn to have a voice for their equality in the world and to also learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and his thoughts about the Civil Rights Movement. The book is moving also because it is from a girl's perspective during the Civil RIghts Movement. 
Age/Audience: The age level for this book is for ages 6-9. The grade level this book might be sutiable for is 1st-4th grades. 
Connect to Serravallo: I think book would work very well Strategy 1.16; What I see/ What I think. I think this strategy will allow the students to look at the pictures and describe what they think about the illustration and what is happening in the illustration.

Review: I loved this book especially since I live in an interracial household. I love how in the book that the Loving's were going to do anything in their power to show everyone in the world that their interracial love is fair, equal, and is okay. Through this journey they showed their children that their love is no different than any other couple's love. This would be a book I would put on my bookshelf in school. 
Age/Audience: I would recommend this book for children that range from 4-8 year olds. The grade level for this book can be for preschool to 3rd grade, but I would recommend reading this book to 1st-3rd graders. 
Connect to Serravallo: This strategy can be connected to 5.1; lean on the pictures. Review: This book was another book i liked. I liked how Gyo defied the odds of being female and attending an university, which wasn't very common during that time. I also liked the part about the babies playing together. It showed me that she saw no difference in race and that everyone should be able to be together but it is taught at a young age about equality of people. 
Age/Audience: The audience I would recommend for this book would be k-3rd grade, the ages that I believe would understand and enjoy this book would be ages 6-8 year olds.

Review: This book was an okay read for me. The one take away I really liked from reading this book was the relationship between parent and child. It made me realize our parents sacrifice so much for us so we can thrive in life. In this book, this showed a great example of how Bui gives birth to her son and wants to make sure the sacrifices she makes will benefit her son in his life. She also wants him to know the amount of love she has for him. 
Age/Audience: The age group of this book ranges widley, it can be read from ages 13 and up; the audience most likely would be intrested in this book would be middle school and higher. 
Connect to Serravallo: This book can be connected to strategy 5.13; summarize based on what a character wants. This is helpful especially in chapter books. It will help the student determine what each character needs or wants in order to drive the plot.

Genre: Graphic Novel Chapter Book
Review: I liked this book. I think it is important in a book to see the character challanged in what they believe in but I also find it encouraging to see even when Jonathan was tested with his beliefs he stood tall and strong and didn't let the students get him down. I liked also that the book showed the realness of what is like being a preteen-teen navigating middle school especially as a new student.
Age/Audience: The recommended range I would recommend for this book would be upper elementary school to early middle school. 
Connect to Serravallo: The strategy 5.3: summarizing what's most essential would be a good strategy for this book. It will help the students summarize each chapter they read of the book.

Review: This is such a good book series to read to elementary children. In this book series Mindy teaches her classmates about her culture and why she is proud of it. Even when she was bullied for her seaweed business she didn't give up, she just treked along and did what she wanted to do. She doesn't compromise who she is even though her classmates want her too. Definitely a good book teaching good life lessons. 
Age/Audience: For this book series I would recommend this book for 6-9 year olds. The audience that would like this book series would be 2nd-3rd graders.

Review: Such a cute book series for young readers. It shows readers they can do anything they set their mind to. I love in the book she is very imaginative and becomes all the types of people like Joan of Arc, Mowgli and so many more. It also shows children that imagination can take you to many exciting places, all you have to do is believe. 
Age/Audience: The audience geared for this book would be children in middle elementary school. The age range that would like this book would be 4-8 year olds. I would recommend this book for ages of 6-8 year olds.

Review: This book was a good read. It is about a teenage girl named, Jude, who immigrates from Syria from America due to the wars. The book creates a great picture for teens to show them what it is like to immigrate and live somewhere completely. It showed me that Muslims come here to seek safety from their country but they are just like everyone else and can achieve goals just like the people who were born in America. This book shows the realness of why immigrants immigrate to America. 
Age/Audience: Upper Elementary School/ 6th grade. Age group recommendations 8-12 year olds. 
Connect to Serravallo: This book I would connect to Strategy  2.23, setting page goals. With this being a chapter book, I think page goal setting would help the reader obtain their reading goal for the day or to just read in general.

Review: By far my favorite book and reads.  This book taught me so much about being who you and standing up for what you believe in. It also was a book about social inequality and how it is unfair. We as people need to treat people equally no matter the color of their skin. 
Age/Audience: I recommend this book to students who are in middle school due to the content in the book. The age range recommendation for this book should be 13 year olds and up. 
Connect to Serravallo: This book would work really well with Strategy 2.2 becuase it gives the student "break reads" I think this is important to have in chapter books. It allows for the student to not be overwhelmed with their reading.

Review: This book pulled at my heartstrings. This book opened my eyes to what it was like being a slave years ago. Once they woke up they would work till they would have to sleep. The book also shows that the slaves cherished the time they would have on Sunday because it would for all the slaves to be together and remeber their African heritage. It is definitely a book that taught me to cherish what I have in my life and to be thankful. But also taught me about the history of African Herritage. 
Age/Audience: The age for this book I would recommend would be 4-8 years but I would recommend a higher age like 7-9 year olds due to the topic of the book. The grade level I would recommend this book to would be 2nd-4th grade.
Connect to Serravallo: I would connect this book to Strategy 2.12, I think this strategy would work with this text becuase of the content of slavery. it would allow the students to learn more in depth about the history of slavery by asking questions about "what is slavery?", "why did slavery happen?", "where did slavery take place?"
