Summary and Reflect

The video mainly tells the process of an American learning Chinese. The video is divided into three parts: At the beginning, the American who learned Chinese thought that he was good enough to communicate fluently, but when he talked to a Chinese, he found that he could only understand 4 words out of 15 words and could't communicate fluently. The second part was after three months when he thought he was ready again, but this time he could only understand eight words out of 19 and could't communicate. In the third part, after another 3 months, he communicated with the Chinese again and this time he understood all the words. But when the Chinese spoke of Chinese ancient literature, he could't understand it and went back to study again. The video has produced two points: first, it takes a lot of time to learn a language; second, learning a language needs to be active. And you need to take the initiative to learn any knowledge of the language and communicate with friends who are in the country of the first language.
At present, I have learned in this language course that I should take the great attitude to face language learning. You can't be afraid of failing and making mistakes in the language process. I need to learn the language every day and self-directed learning.

summarise each note-taking method

The video describes five ways to take notes. The first is the outline, which is a direct note-taking system. When writing on paper, you need to write the big idea separately, so that you can write small details below; You can add details at any time on your computer. The second is the Cornell. We need to divide a piece of paper into three sections, with two columns at the top: the left for questions, the right for notes, and the bottom for summaries. The third is Mind Map. We need to draw a circle in the middle of a piece of paper and add small ideas and themes around it. The fourth is Flow, we need to create a document and then make some records about the subject but we don't need to record everything that is professor say, we just need to record our own understanding of the knowledge or some important or some details. The fifth is Write on the sides. The professor will send us the class copy in advance, and we can make notes on the lesson plan to form a timeline.

the methods ( I use)

I have used Mind Map to take notes, and I think it is a good way to take notes, which can record the small ideas said by the teacher and the ideas thought by myself on a main point.

the methods I want to try and why

I want to try the Write on the sides. Because in this way, I think I can make records and summarise my review after class in the relatively knowledge points.

Summarise

Nick introduced the ways to contact him, such as sending emails to him or going to the school directly, and introduced some things about the library: First, how to use the UCA library, you can use the link or My UCA to open the UCA library, we can find a lot of resources in the UCA library, including books, videos, papers and so on. The second introduces the global resource library that we can use to find the data we need when we don't have VPNS. Third Nick explains why references are used. The fourth describes how we can use the Harvard method, for example, to add a book that needs to indicate the title, author, date, and where in the book you cite the accurate content.

Interesting and why

I am most interested in Harvard method, because I think this part of the content can help me a really important role in the future homework and essays. It's a new way of learning for me.

Reflect

I will often use the UCA Library to read something about learning. I think the Harvard method works best for me. I can find any resources that are helpful to my study in UCA library, and I can better carry out my project research through them.

First, we should take a piece of paper and fold it in half the long way and make a crease and we open the piece of paper. Then we line up the short edge with the crease and do the same thing on the other side. After that we fold again, line up the short edge with the crease and we fold it in. We do the same thing on the other side. Then make the waves. Last line up the long edge with the bottom edge, make a fold and do the same thing on the other side.

Say what was good/bad about making & flying the plane
Benefits: Can improve the hands-on ability
bad: It doesn't fly very far
But it’s not surprising because that's how I used to make paper airplanes when I was a kid, you know anything I would like to change.Maybe I can draw some patterns on my plane to decorate it.
