Lydia Mendoza (May 31, 1916 – December 20, 2007) was an American guitarist and singer of Tejano music. She is considered by many "the queen of Tejano music." She is also known as La Alondra de la Frontera (The Lark of the Border). Mendoza was born into a musical family in Houston, Texas. She learned to sing and play stringed instruments from her mother. In 1934, Lydia recorded her first solo single, the tango "Mal Hombre," or "Bad Man," which would quickly become her signature song.
