         <title>Group Problem Solving in Special Education</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Deciding which materials, activities, and interventions will be used with colleagues to provide instructional accommodations and modifications to meet students' needs.  Sometimes the group can be fairly small with just two people and other times it can involve many people and school departments.  To have effective group problem solving there should be a familiarity of the group members skills and knowledge, and a high level of trust.  The group needs equal group participation, communication, and coordination.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Response to Intervention (RTI)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>RTI is a specialized type of problem solving.  Instead of RTI being based on the group consensus of a decision the data indicates if he or she is not succeeding.  If not then problem solving will occur.  A prescribed set of solutions will then be decided and implemented for a predetermined period of time and then be reassessed. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Brainstorming</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In brainstorming the participants in the problem-solving process call out solutions as they think of them.  There are 4 rules typically given for brainstorming.  The first is to accept all the ideas that are offered without evaluating them.  The second is propose solutions freely.  The third is to have someone write down the ideas being generated.  The fourth is to "play" with the ideas to generate even more ideas.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Brainwriting</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Brainwriting is a strategy to generate potential solutions to a problem.  Participants individually write 3-4 potential solutions on a blank paper.  They then place their lists in a pile.  A list is then generated anonymously of all of the ideas eliminating duplicates.  Then all ideas are presented to the group.  This option leaves all parties comfortable to share in the discussion when it could be an emotionally charged issue. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Nominal Group Technique</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This strategy to generate solutions combines brainstorming and brainwriting.  Participants are assigned to groups of 4-5 and first individually generate and write down as many solutions as they can.  Then each group member shares one idea.  The ideas are written down so that all can see.  This continues until all can see all possible solutions.  The ideas are then rated and discussed.  This strategy requires many participants.</div>]]></description>
