A Vaulted Ceiling is similar to a Cathedral Ceiling, but Vaulted Ceilings need not be symmetrical. As this photo demonstrates, the ceiling meets the wall at the top of it's peak. While a Vaulted Ceiling does not need to follow the shape of the roof (as in a Cathedral Ceiling), in this space, it looks like the designer chose to follow the shape of the roof and use a Vaulted Ceiling to make use of what might otherwise be dead space--this gives this space drama.

A Coffered Ceiling utilizes beams to construct patterns in the ceiling. In this space, the Coffered Ceiling is mostly a design choice, breaking up the black ceiling and pulling together the black-and-white color scheme. However, Coffered Ceilings can also be used to absorb sound or make a room feel larger.
