British: The British were friends with the Zulu people. However, when an opportunity came up to annex the colony of the Boers, they could not resist it. They gave up their realtionship with the Zulus and conquered them in 1879.
2. Mzilikazi: a powerful group that drove out their surrounding enemies and became surrounded by uninhabited land. However, the Voortrekkers saw this uninhabited land, took it, and drove out the Mzilikazi.
3. Zulu: Zululand was sandwiched between the Boer and British settlements. They were friends with the British settlement of Natal, but they were not friends with the neighboring Boers. However, they were betrayed by the British, and after a war with them, were defeated. 
4. Voortrekkers: A group of Dutch people called Boers who migrated through South Africa. They were able to drive out the Mzilikazi and settle north of the Vaal River. The grand apartheid dented them land and political rights as well as citizenship. The term “petty apartheid” refers to a group of laws that were created in 1950. These laws affect things in everyday life. They separated whites from blacks in things like schools, public places, services, restaurants, and parks. Petty apartheid relates more to the physical world, and grand apartheid related more to invisible things.
