Concept Maps

I think that concept maps are very useful because they let you understand better what you are studying and find all the links that are helpful to improve your exposition. You can use them when you have to study subjects which are more schematic, like Physics or Science, or subjects like History or Philosophy. However they make you lost too much time processing them, therefore they are not useful for people who need a lot of time to study. Indeed I use them only when I have some time, otherwise I study only from the book. I usually prefer to write down a concept map because it helps me to be more aware of what I am studying.

Speaking English

I usually do not feel at ease when speaking English because I have some difficulties in finding the correct words and because, when I am speaking, I have always to stop and think about grammar. I get very embarrassed if I talk with someone who knows the language better than me.
I have had the biggest difficulties when I was describing a monument and I could not find the right words; instead I felt at ease when I was speaking with a boy who did not know English very well and so I could think about what I was saying.

Concept vs Mind Maps

I am used to use both types of maps. You can use concept maps when you have to create an entire speech thanks to the connections between keywords; instead you can use mind maps when you want to make a speech focusing only in the keywords and in the main concepts. In conclusion, I think that both concept and mind maps are usefull to study because they make you concentrate only on your speech and on the important parts of it.

I think that the most important thing to improve your English is to listen it. If you listen it, you start thinking in English and you learn new terms that are useful to know better the language. You can do it in different ways: talking with someone who knows the language, watching films or videos or listening to music in English. Indeed you can improve it reading English books.

Non-verbal communication is as important as the verbal communication. Instead, sometimes, people forget the former, not using all the body, but only words.
I think that I should use different voice tons because it involves more the one to whom talking; indeed I should gesticulate less because it distracts people who are listening to me. Furthermore I should have a correct posture.

In my opinion the exchange is a good experience to improve your English and to meet other people with different cultures. In this exchange, the third I've done, I met a lot of kind people and I had the possibility of talking English for four days. The thing that I liked most is the visit of Superga because I had never been there and so it has been something new for me too. Indeed it is an other good aspect of the exchange, because it lets you see again your city and find some places that you had never seen before or that you never remember well.
However I had some problems to talk with my guest because he was very shy, but I took it as if it was a challenge and so I managed to overcome it.
In conclusion, I think that exchanges are really useful because they make you improve your speaking and know newkinds of cultures, having also fun.
