Read:
Comprehension of the material is important for taking notes so you need to read with all of your attention and focus. An example of this is changing where you read to minimize distractions.
Highlight:
While reading, write in the margins and use symbols to draw your attention back to points you want to remember. An example of this is drawing stars in the margins. Don't forget to underline key terms and keep track of your ideas. You can use book flags to keep track of your ideas while reading.
Record:
Using your notes in the margins and writing them down is important to make connections to other parts of the text. Rome notes is an example of a website you can use to write notes and connect ideas throughout the book.
Synthesize:
Connect the knowledge to the real world and write your own ideas about the material.

The Spacing Effect:
Using a technique called spaced repetition, study and add progressively longer intervals between each study session. Memories decay overtime and the best way to remember what you study is to have it stored in long term memory. Spend the time you block off for studying to work efficiently by spending time on things you don't know or can't seem to remember. Do this by making flashcards and maximize how much you can learn and remember.
