Peanut Couch ( Or something like that )

1. Explain your product, include the terms function and form in your answer.
The product is a couch. The form of it is a shape of a peanut. One of its biggest function is that it has a head rest to feel more comfortable. Also, we didn't use legs to prevent from scraping the floor.

2. Explain the dynamics of your team. Did every member have a role? Was there a natural leader?
There wasn't actually a fixed role in making the couch. However, we all had something to do. Some told what to do and some people drew schematics and made the miniature of the product. There were two natural leaders which caused a bit of chaos because the two people's ideas were different from one another

3. How did your team plan for your outcome?
We first talked about what we should make. After that we drew a simple sketch of the product. After a few discussions about what to add, we started making the physical model.

4. What techniques of modelling did your team use?
We used graphical models to draw how the product will look like. After that we used physical models to make a miniature of the product.

5. What challenges did your team face?
Like I said before, two of our teammates had different ideas about what to make. Each of the sides weren't able to understand each other's idea. That led to an argument

6. To iterate the design process, evaluate your final outcome, what would you adapt if repeated?
I think we should make the graphical model more specific to make the production of the physical model go smoothly

If the fingerprint matches to the one registered the door opens.

There are things that needs to be changed in this controller's design. The second problem is that the fingerprint scanner on the side might be a bit too far for people that have small hands.

To solve this problem, I could make the control smaller and move the large scanner to the side.
Anywheel bicycle product design brief

I designed a box that contains a water repellent fibre. I designed this to prevent rust on the bicycle. If there is rust on a bicycle, people may get injured because the chain can cause a small or big cut on your leg. If the chain is rusty, people might get a bacterial infection that could cause Tetanus. There are many causes of rust, one of them is because of rain touching the steel parts of the bicycle. Another problem might be if the bicycle is rusty, the parts of the bicycle might not work well and therefore cause accidents like faulty brake crashes. To prevent rain from touching the bicycle, I designed a box that will contain water repellent fibre. This water repellent fibre will cover the entire bicycle from rain. The box looks like a normal box because it is designed to carry other things such as candy or phone when it is not raining. The product will be two separate pieces, the box itself and a board inside the box that will be connected with the fibre. It will be separable and will be located on the top tube of the bicycle.

The size of the box will be 180cm^2 and the height will be 10 cm. The size of the hole will be 105cm^2.

Using metal as the material of my design product would be adequate because my product is going to be attached to a bicycle and it needs to withstand a lot of wear and tear, blows and shocks caused by crashes. However, I think it needs to be an alloy rather than a pure metal because alloys are stronger and doesn't rust. Sharing bicycles are most definitely going to be parked outdoors. Rusting can easily happen because the product is exposed to a lot of oxygen and rain.

I am currently in the final stages of the anywheel product. The photo is the render of the design. I used galvanized steel as the material for the product because galvanized steel has zinc coating and zinc coating prevents rust. Since this product is going to be located outdoors, the product itself needs to be rust-proof. I divided the product into 4 pieces to make it easier to print. I will use adhesives to connect the products because the printed product will be too small for joints.

The type of plastic that would be suitable for my product is probably Melamine Formaldehyde. MF is a thermosetting plastic. So, we don't need to worry about the plastic melting. Also MF is hard and chemical resistant. So, it is quite suitable for outdoors because plastic won't react with chemicals in the air.

We tried to make bioplastic today. The plastic was made of Glycerine Gelatine, Sugar and Spirulina. The plastic smelled like green tea and it took so long for the plastic to be made. However, it was a fun experience because it kind of felt like cooking food however, the end result was kind of disappointing because there wasn't much plastic made.

This is the finished version of the bioplastic. The plastic is kind of disappointing because I expected the plastic to be hard not elastic. However, it does kind of feel like vinyl. The recipe was Mix 4g sugar with 10ml water, after that mix 10ml of Spirulina with 20ml of Water. Mix the two solutions. After that mix Gelatine and Glycerine to make Glycerine Gelatine. Mix all of the things with heat.

This bioplastic could be used for a jacket. It could also be used for Vinyl. However, I am skeptical if this can actually be used.

This is the foam model of the table that my partner Leo wants. The table's legs can move to adjust the height of the table top. To prevent the legs from slipping, I made the bottom part of the table with trenches that prevent it from slipping further. The table top also has trenches to prevent the legs from moving outside. One of the characteristics about the table is that it uses not that many adhesives. While I am satisfied with the design of the table. If this model is to be made in real size, the product will be made of wood. To be more specific, Softwood. The wood will not be manufactured due to manufactured boards being vulnerable to water. The wood, though will be treated to extend the product's life. While I am quite satisfied about the design, it is not without its flaws. One of the flaws is that it takes up a lot of space and the chairs need to be placed from a distance from the table top due to the existence of the bottom base.

While all the forms of research can be helpful to understand the user. I think having an interview and also immersion would be the best way. This is because from the immersion I can to some extent know what the user's environment is and what they do. Also, I could to some extent know the difficulties experienced. Having an interview on top of immersion would be helpful since I can't really experience the user 100% just by doing immersion for a few days. Also, there might be difficulties that I hadn't seen as a difficulty. There might also be long term difficulties and experience that only people that are familiar with the job may have. Therefore, I will be using interview and immersion.
