How would you describe your musical identity? How does your identity relate to your specific cultural cohorts and sense of self?
My music identity directly correlates strongly with my upbringing.Majority of my music taste derives from my father whom was at his youth in the 70’s . To me this is one of the best eras for music. Theres an array of music from Rock to , disco and Jazz. I absolutely love rock from the Along with these heavy musical influences another aspect of my musical identity is heavenly influenced by my religion.I am a christian and I sing in church , therefore my life is heavily influenced by secular music.I am someone whom I believe is pretty calm therefore I tend to listen to music that is not too much, that’s calming and has a good message. From day to day I would say I am more influenced by secular music , it’s a huge part of my life. I sing in church , as well as for worship nights on campus , or even when I’m just at home practicing. This music to me is calming as well as good , I am able to receive fulfillment from listening. I tend not to listen to music that sends out a bad message or puts me into a bad mood. I am not to big on party music, I find as if I became closer to God , certain music became hard to listen too. However I am hugely in love with Jazz music and Rock. I listen to all genres of music my only need is for the music to be good.

video 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA1BSK_MudQ&list=RDMMZA1BSK_MudQ

video 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Nqi6wcw-Q

The music I decided to pick to me mirror my ideology

on what I believe my musical identity is.The first song “ The Anthem” is a Gospel song , this is typically the music I listen to. To me this music is fulfilling and is in line with my personal morals and lifestyle.Another song I decided to showcase is an instrumental of a popular song by Khalid an Artist I would classify as new age rhythm and blues. He has a smooth sound and this song in particular stood out to me when I played it back from his new album.

"In the reception of certain genres people make evaluations based on the presence or absence dicent indices , signs of authenticity"
( Turino 107)

" Within any society, each individual is a vector for cultural similarities and differences"
( Turino 111)

" Each individual is a somewhat distinctive constellation of habit"
( Turino 121)

image 1 : Gospel Singers
https://www.fastcompany.com/1696259/sharing-vs-selling-lesson-gospel-music
This image relates to the secular music I enjoy . Which is religious music. For me preferably christian music .
Image 2: Jazz player
http://sponsored.free-times.com/columbia-museum-of-art/expand-idea-jazz-music-concert-series/

This image relates to the type of music I enjoy outside secular , at least this is one type of music. I find jazz to be calming and a very skillful music which I enjoy a lot.

- Music as a religious experience
Do you find the idea of popular music concerts as sites of religious or spiritual experiences convincing? Why or why not? How do your own personal experiences at popular concerts and festivals factor into your arguments?
I believe that it is in fact possible to have a religious experience from a music concert. I feel that some music can trigger this emotion faster than others. I also think this experience of a music goer can depend on what the individual is more keen to listening to.Some music that I wouldn’t consider music can be interpreted different by another.Personally I found that I have more of a religious experience when it comes to secular music. Lately I’ve found the more I’m involved with church the more my music is influenced by this life decision . However for attending popular culture music of today concerts I will say sometimes depending on how much you enjoy a musician you can find yourself being swept up and overcome by a trance . Live music is another experience that can’t fully be explained unless one was to experience it first hand.

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWrUjhMsUb8

2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnNP_fVjB9Y
Image 1 : https://goo.gl/images/RhjA6Q

source : http://churchfront.com/blog-churchfront/2017/2/28/how-to-increase-congregational-singing-in-worship
image 2
https://goo.gl/images/E3PH88
source: http://africanripples.com/adeboye-admonishes-christians-against-sin-at-64th-rccg-convention/
