If we collaboratively assess student work regularly using specific criteria to determine the strengths and areas of needs for students around literacy for the modern learner then we will learn how to use evidence based data to intentionally integrate literacy in our cross-curricular practices and to effectively improve student achievement.

I looked at collaborative assessment and inquiry as a literacy initiative to improve student achievement. Doing this would allow us to use student evidence to inform our practice and to continue to focus on Literacy Skill Development.

Rita

I agree with Christina, that students need the proper supports and safe environment in order to take risks in their learning, which will lead to greater success. I also agree with Rita, that we should work collaboratively to assess student work. I look at collaborative assessment and inquiry as an opportunity to work with other teachers to create a consistent, scaffolded literacy program where students and teachers understand ELL development in order to create attainable and realistic goals for the learners with expectations, milestones, and an overall goal that we are working towards. This must be based on research, student and teacher input, and a sustainable plan that a school can put into place with all stakeholders on board with.

Michelle
