This will increase the overall quality of my life. Other than that, I able to learn stages of memory, how people think and process information and use their intellectual abilities to combat memory problems.

As a teacher
It helps to understand the individual difference of students regarding their thinking ability, interests and attitudes. The mental condition influence directly the achievement of students. So, as a teacher I have to make sure my mental health and students must be normal or healthy.

As a parent
It is important for parents to educate themselves so that they can contribute meaningfully towards the child’s mental growth.

Thank you Dr. for the videos sharing. I would like to share my thought

Self:

I can better understand about myself. We always talk to the inner self “Why am I being emotional after receiving the news of my friend’s wedding? Why am I no longer loving ice cream? Why am I being irritated when people asking for my help that I usually love to deal with?” In my perspective, people change from time to time and we have to better understand ourselves in every stage of our life so that we can easily accept everything that happens to our life rather than being negative and suffering in despair for a long time. With the knowledge of cognitive psychology, you will not be surprising when you give yourself a try on a new challenge or thing that you would not try previously because you know that it is just a transformation of our mind.

Teacher:

I can better understand my students in different context to achieve their academic goals. Everyone come from different backgrounds so to help them in striving academic performance is to understand their cognitive psychology. Teacher should not only expert in subject matter but overlook the importance of understanding students’ mind, attitudes toward learning, motivation on academic performance and so on. I able to understand how they change and grow throughout the lifespan. For example, the way I communicate with elementary student and university student is different because I understand that both parties receive my message in different way due to the development of cognitive psychology.

Parent:

With the knowledge of cognitive psychology, I will know how to get along well with my children to build a very good relationship with them. At the same time, I able to understand my children’s emotion and intelligent development more deeply. For example, Instead of screaming at my children when they are crying and being naughty like most of the parents do, I will try to understand the reason they react such way because I know that it is an expression they show to seek our attention. I will understand the appropriate way to communicate with them to reach my intention on encouraging them or stop them from doing something. I do believe that studying cognitive psychology would help me to feel my children instead of expecting them to follow my expectation on them. It can help me to be a good parent to my children and assist them in accomplishing their goals in different stages in life.

As someone who has been curious of neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology seems a great start to getting to know about brain activities and its functions. I truly believe it will help me to understand more about myself, as a person, and everyone around me as well. Learning and understanding why a person behaves in a way they do will allow me to help them and be more tolerable towards them. I hope I could use the skills I learn from this course to navigate people towards more positive thoughts, and perhaps help them to understand them even better as well. All of these could also be applied to my students. Helping them to better comprehend themselves and their mind will definitely improve their learning abilities.

Thank you Dr Narina for the informative and inspiring video. The videos sharing really help me a lot to understand about cognitive psychology generally and I would like to share my opinion on how it can affect me as a learner, teacher and parent.

As a learner, with a deeper understanding of topics and stronger learning skills, I can approach coursework and other task with enthusiasm and confidence. It helps me in solving problem, change my perception about many thing and helps me to work in a team with different knowledge and different personalities.

As a teacher, what I can understand is the cognitive learning approach me to teach students the skills they need to learn effectively. This helps students build transferable problem-solving and study skills that they can apply in any subject. Developing cognitive skills allows students to build upon previous knowledge and ideas. This teaches students to make connections and apply new concepts to what they already know.

As parent, I believe that parenting skills and behaviors have a positive impact on children’s self-esteem, school achievement, cognitive development and behavior. I believe that it is important for me to give the child autonomy, nurture, and show them responsibility. For some parents, a combination of parenting styles works in developing children’s cognitive and behavior.
