The Bank Holiday was a four-day closing of the banks the day after Roosevelt's inauguration. Roosevelt did this to give the banks time to get their accounts in order before they reopened for business. This also gave time for the government to put laws in place to try and halt and economic deterioration. This program would undoubtedly fit under the relief category, as it is put in place to create and immediate seal over the problem.

The reason that this would perfectly fit under this column is the obvious reason that the whole purpose of the act is to give the president the ability to provide relief for the people that needed it.

One reason why the country fell into such a hole was the crashing stock market. Congress targeted this topic in the SEC which is abbreviated for the Securities and Exchange Commission. This was put in place to regulate the stock market and make it a safer place for traders. This would obviously fall under the reform category as it is still around today and serves its purpose to this day.

During this hard time in American History, farmers were hit the hardest out of any group of people. The bottom fell out of all crop prices and farmers couldn't provide for themselves once these prices fell. In addition, farmers couldn't profit off of farming and most of them had bank loans that they had no chance of repaying. To counter the hardships of farmers, congress passed the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA), which was put in place to end overproduction and raise crop prices. The AAA provided financial aid, paying farmers subsidies to cut production and forego planting on some of their land. Eventually, in 1934, farm prices revamped and began to rise to the amount that the government was wishing for.

In detail, the FERA granted federal funds to state and local agencies to help the unemployed. The FERA doesn't need too much explaining as to why it was a relief program, considering the fact that the word "relief" is included in the name.

This loaned money with a low interest rates to the people who couldn't pay mortgages. All in all, the HOLC was aimed at making it easier for the average person to buy and pay for a home. The HOLC was certainly a recovery program due to the fact that it didn't last forever, and didn't provide immediate help. Buying a house, similar to today, takes time and normally isn't bought all at once. The main goal of this program was to help consumers by allowing them to pay it off during time, which is the gradual help from the government.

The WPA, also known as the Works Progress Administration, was created with a start-up fee close to $5 billion dollars. While this may seem like an ill-advised investment. the program quickly provided jobs on public works for the country on works such roads and rivers. By the year 1943, the WPA had employed over 8 million workers at a cost of $11 billion dollars. The WPA was once of the prime examples of Roosevelt's ideal that is known as "pump priming." Pump priming is the spending of government money on opening jobs that would put money back into the hands of consumers, which would then, stimulate the economy. The effect of this program was not immediate, but was fairly quick and lasted for the amount of time that it needed to. In addition, the programs goal was to restart the flow of consumer demand, a term that come straight from the definition of a recovery program.

Since Tennessee had a few running water, less electricity, the Congress put in a government agency called the Tennessee Valley Authority. This built many dams across of all Tennessee River Valley to control floods and to generate electric power. This program was put in place due to the fact that this region of the country was in such shambles. This also created jobs, which then helped people and the economy, it recreated the domino effect in a good way. One of the many reasons that the TVA would be considered a recovery program includes the basis that it created jobs for a long time and restarted the flow of things down in this region. Many who look at the TVA would say that it is apart of the reform category due to the fact that it is still around today, however, the TVA wasn't designed to last and provide for the country up to the present day. In addition, some may argue that the TVA provided would be more of a relief category, however the TVA was put in place to be a temporary program that is designed to revamp consumer demand in the areas that would benefit.

This act passed by Congress, is undoubtedly the most famous act known to this day that came as a part of the New Deal. The Social Security Act, established in 1935, created a pension system for retirees. This act also provided buffers for those who lost jobs. The effect this buffer had was that those who lost their jobs, had time to recover and get themselves back on their feet. In addition, the social security provided insurance to any worker who may have gotten hurt at their job site or because of their job. All in all Social Security put the worker first and provided all types of insurances for the common person. As for what category the Social Security Act belongs in, it is obvious to all that it belongs in the reform category. Social Security is still around today and forces those who have money to be smarter with it. It also prevents a mass amount of workers from losing their job all at once, which was one of many causes from the Great Depression.

The NRA, an abbreviation for, the National Recovery Administration, was designed to balance business across the country. Most notably, the program established minimum wages for workers and minimum prices for the goods that businesses sold. The NRA also developed codes that would regulate fair competition to govern whole industries. The idea behind the codes was to increase the wages of workers so they could buy more goods and raise prices so companies could make a profit. When speaking about the NRA, Roosevelt said, "the [NRA] most important and far-reaching legislation ever enacted by the American Congress." The NRA has "recovery" in their name and it did just that.

Easy to understand, the REA, abbreviated for Rural Electrification Act, provided electricity to farms during this time period by loaning money to electric utilities so that they could build power lines, which brought power to isolated rural areas. The program was incredibly successful as it brought electricity to about 80% of American farms. The REA then went down in history as one of the most successful New Deal acts due to the fact that the government didn't lose insane amounts of money due to the loaning. The obvious reason that the REA would fit under recovery is simply that providing electricity to farms over time revamped the economic flow in these areas and started a cycle of good things to come.

Seen to many as the most important piece of the New Deal, the Wagner Act, truly gave the average worker power like nothing else had before. Most importantly, the act gave workers the right to collective bargaining, which meant that employees had to negotiate with unions as to what they would get paid, for how long, and what the job conditions entailed. The law also created the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to look into the complaints of workers.

Similar to the Wager Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act provided workers with even more rights. The act established, what we still know to this day as, minimum wage. Hand in hand, the act also established minimum workweeks and outlawed the labor of children. While it is said that minimum wage is one of the most controversial parts of the New Deal in the present day, it is without question that the New Deal still has effects on everyday life. The main reason that the Fair Labor Standards Act would fit best under the reform category is a result of the goals that were behind the act. The purpose of the act, was to give the workers power, so that an economic depression has a lower chance of happening in future times.
