- apostrophes are used in contractions to replace the missing letter

ex. they are= they're
       is not= isn't
       let us= let's

-the apostrophe is also used to show numbers being replaced

ex. the class of 1995= '95

- You need to make sure that the word possesses something before you add in an apostrophe.
- there is no apostrophe after the workers and Hendersons because these words don't possess anything

ex. The workers were upset.
