Despite receiving an offer to enroll at West Point, he chose active enlistment after completing high school. This enlistment involved being assigned to a Special Forces Military Intelligence unit and eventually ended with Lance Cutsforth becoming an Army officer. He was commissioned after receiving a bachelors of science degree in aeronautical engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After receiving his commission, Cutsforth continued his involvement with the Army for seven more years, some of which he spent abroad such countries as Bosnia, Hungary, and Germany. Throughout his military career, Cutsforth earned academic recognitions as a distinguished honor graduate of several courses, including Infantry Mortar Platoon Leader Course and Bradley Fighting Vehicle Commander Course as well as multiple merit awards for his service. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Cutsforth worked as a real estate consultant capable of handling both commercial and residential real estate.
