In this week , we learn about acquisition of Ibadah which are setting the right niyyah ( intention ) , applying the right amal (practices) , and internalising the ihsan (positive virtues) .

In Islam, ʿIbadah (worship) is not only about physical acts but also involves inner qualities and spiritual excellence. Its true essence is acquired through the integration of three core components:

Niyyah (Intention)
Niyyah means having the right intention to seek Allah’s pleasure. A sincere and clear niyyah is essential for any act of worship to be accepted.

Amal (Action/Deed)
Amal refers to performing righteous deeds such as prayer, fasting, zakat, and kindness. These acts must be done with sincerity and consistency, according to Islamic teachings.

Ihsan (Excellence in Worship)
Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him; even if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you. It reflects a high level of sincerity, mindfulness, and moral excellence.

Together, Niyyah, Amal, and Ihsan ensure that worship is not just ritual, but a path to gaining ḥikmah (wisdom) and nearness to Allah.

In Islam, ʿIbadah (worship) is not only a means of fulfilling religious duties but also a source of acquiring ḥikmah (wisdom). Each act of worship contains deep lessons and benefits that guide individuals toward righteousness and understanding.

Ṣalāh (Prayer): Builds discipline and prevents immoral behavior. It reminds the soul of Allah and maintains spiritual connection. Surah al-ʿAnkabūt (29:45):

“Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows what you do.”

Ṣawm (Fasting): Cultivates self-restraint and taqwa (God-consciousness), helping one to avoid sins and improve character. Surah al-Baqarah (2:183):

“O you who have believed, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous.”

Zakāh (Charity): Purifies wealth and the soul, promotes social responsibility, and reduces greed. Surah at-Tawbah (9:103):

“Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke blessings upon them…”

Ḥajj (Pilgrimage): Teaches humility, unity, and obedience. It is a journey of spiritual renewal and submission to Allah. Surah al-Baqarah (2:197):

“And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa (God-consciousness). So fear Me, O you of understanding.”

These forms of ʿibādah help develop inner qualities like sincerity, humility, and devotion, which are key to acquiring true ḥikmah in life.
