It is important to note that survey respondents had the agency to decide what constituted a "problematic" UX pattern worth reporting. Likewise, students who analyzed the survey elected which problematic patterns to focus upon for their video. They only needed to put their analysis in conversation with resources such at the 2022 FTC report. This means, in some cases, their definitions of a dark pattern may stray from the definitions of the report and other authoritative sources. They were not coached by me or others on what to highlight, but only on how to construct an evidential argument about a UX design. This fits with the learning goals of our course. At the same time, it gives insight into how individuals are conceiving of and experiencing design patterns that they find problematic as they interact with contemporary systems.
