         <description><![CDATA[<div>This field trip is about how DaVinci used to write backwards, also known as mirrored writing. This is an interactive way for students to transcribe their thoughts like Leonardo DaVinci did. This addresses the Inventor side of DaVinci, so students are able to read about how he invented the things and concepts he did, then honing in on mirroring, and utilizing the mirrored writing activity.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Brief description of the interactive activity that accompanies the field trip</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Activity: The students will be given grid paper and they will be asked to fold their paper into quarters and draw a line down the two creases. They will draw a quadrilateral (no parallelograms) on the upper left hand quadrant of the paper and fold the paper over the y-axis (hamburger way) and trace the shape they made. They will notice that is looks like the reflection of the original shape. Leonardo DaVinci was able to think like this and he could write backwards without having to trace anything. Another way to reflect is to measure the lines of symmetry. The students will then draw another quadrilateral in the lower left hand quadrant and instead of folding the paper and tracing, they will count the units of the grid to the y-axis and they will then count the same amount of units on the order side of the y-axis and plot their point. This will be repeated for each point they have. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>DaVinci Learning Activities have 7 interactive activities to demonstrate three major sides of DaVinci: The Inventor, The Scientist, and The Artist. Therefore with this field trip, you are not just reading about what he did, but directly testing out his creations through interactive quizzes, activities, and workshops, conveniently located at the bottom of it’s corresponding article.  Since there are three different aspects on this site, with corresponding interactive activities, this is easy for teachers to focus on one dimension of DaVinci and teach it thoroughly. Our own field trip focuses on The Inventor, to then move onto mirrored writing, where students can type anything out and it appears backwards. This is beneficial to comprehension because there is a direct relationship shown about who invented this and how it works, before moving onto mathematical reflections.</div>]]></description>
