A business major in my opinion is a great major to have because of how broad it is. Everything is ran like/in a business. Grads from business can have tons of job offers from a major that is not too stressful to achieve either.

My girlfriend of 3 years has ran a successful nail business all by herself. She's a hard worker, and has made a 6 figure income every month. She's definitely the better business woman, but having some knowledge of a degree in business I feel and hope can help her if she chooses to pursue this business for the future. It definitely would not hurt to have a business major helping her behind the scenes. This would give me a purpose/meaning, as I'm seeking to be selfless and help someone else who I care about.

There are a lot of jobs associated with a business major. I for one want to be a firefighter for my future career. My father is the one who changed my mind about pursuing a criminal justice major and switching to a business one as he said it would be more applicable to a firefighter career. He himself is a firefighter captain, so I chose to take his advice. Thus, a firefighter is something available, a market manager, sales manager, and so on.

What are the material aspects of this career or a job in this field? I.e. what's the pay range? What kind of education beyond a BA is needed in this field? What type of job is it - move around a lot? Sit at a desk?

The average salary for my hopeful future career (firefighting), is about 55,000 roughly. However, this depends on overtime and your state/station. If you are higher in rank like a fire chief or captain, a business major would come in handy because at this point you're doing a lot of paperwork, running schedules, leading men, and making decisions for the fire station/company for the city. You do not need much of an education beyond a BA, and it definitely is a move around a lot job when called upon.

I chose to share this one because it is an example of something that can be done being a chief/captain for a firefighting station. It brings to light that it too is ran like a business, and decisions must be made in this aspect.

With higher power comes higher responsibility; or more boring paperwork. This I can imagine is what he does not like about having to do for communications for the Fire department and the city. I'm not exactly sure if he likes any part of it, but someone has to do it.

Despite there being many grueling tasks with running a business, as mentioned in the book "The Power of Meaning," by Esfahani Smith, the author told a story where a zookeeper spent only 20% of her time doing fun work, whereas the other 80% of her time was spent doing "menial tasks." Being a firefighter has been a dream of mine since I could remember. It's always been a goal and thus has always given me a purpose in life to try and achieve. It lines up perfectly with my personality and passions, even if it means doing paperwork for communications between the fire station and the city I'm at.

if you can find out, what kind of writing do they do in this career, major or field?

Thankfully being nosy with my dads work has came in handy. I remember one time looking at something he was writing on his laptop for work. It described the emergency that he partook in the day prior, where he saved a little girl. He basically summarized the entire event that happened, how the little girl was passed out, and how she was resuscitated and alive in the end. Thus, firefighters (fire captains), are sometimes responsible for writing summaries for the emergencies they must partake in. I believe he turns this into the fire chief, who then turns it into the city or police? I'm not entirely sure how/who it transfers over to: all I know that it is required for emergency events.

I'm not too sure if firefighters do research, or more so what they research. I guess if one is in charge of communications between the other stations and city, or the business management within the station and city, they would research how the city is ran and operated. If I were a firefighter, despite knowing how a business is ran, I would research cancer prevention for my own personal sake so that I could try to avoid it with all of the smoke and toxic substances I'd be around when fighting fires.

In a nutshell, I found in this article that a business/marketer manager is very crucial as it "connects the organization to the world outside." Marketers are the creative minds behind the business, the fuel source if you would. They utilize things like "advertising, media, market research, social media, and sales," in order to better a business, its marketing, and therefore its connection to the world.

The steps to become a firefighter are a little different in each state. In CA Firefighters are required to be at minimum EMT's on top of their firefighting. They can also be paramedics. This is because medical emergencies make up 80% of their calls. Within the fire department are multiple divisions being suppression and rescue, fire prevention bureau, logistics and support services, training division, and administration division. Each division has its own chief and at the head of the organization is the fire chief. The fire department provides customer services beyond emergency response duties. Thus, the organization runs in a business model. Having an understanding of business allows for more career opportunities. EMT, fire tech classes, and fire academy is the short term path to this career. Also an associates in fire science and bachelors in fire administration will eventually come around.
