I am Everly Mae Silat, a fervent fan of pop culture in the Philippines. My interests include Original Pilipino Music (OPM), Filipino comedy, local films, telenovelas, Filipino street cuisine, and visual arts. I enjoy the soul-stirring tunes of OPM, the infectious charm of Filipino comedy, and the intriguing stories depicted in local films and teleseryes. In addition, I enjoy the colorful flavors and cultural significance of Filipino street cuisine, as well as the artistic expressions found in Filipino visual arts. Through my exploration of these various components, I continue to uncover new facets of the rich and captivating fabric of Philippine pop culture.

The "Hugot" culture, which has its roots in Filipino media, has received a lot of attention. On my Padlet, I want to explore its subtleties. This cultural phenomenon, characterized by passionate emotions and relatable phrases, has become a defining feature of Filipino storytelling. Its widespread use in different types of media, from music to films, demonstrates its long-lasting influence on cultural discourse. "Hugot" culture engages with audiences of all ages by embracing themes of love, heartbreak, and the complexities of life, encouraging empathy and connection. Through my Padlet, I hope to examine the significance of "hugot" culture and its role in constructing myths that are firmly ingrained in Filipino society.

The growth of hugot culture in contemporary Philippine pop culture can be evaluated through the Semiotics lens, particularly in terms of cultural expression and societal norm shifts. Semiotics studies how signs and symbols convey meaning in a cultural context, and hugot lines are potent emblems of emotional depth and resonance in Filipino society. Dissecting the language and imagery utilized in hugot expressions reveals additional layers of meaning contained within these cultural objects, representing the Filipino people's changing attitudes and beliefs about love, relationships, and personal experiences. Furthermore, hugot culture demonstrates how media consumers actively engage with and interpret cultural symbols, changing them to fit their own narratives and experiences, so sustaining the cycle of cultural production and consumption. Semiotics can help us understand how hugot culture drives change by challenging established narratives and developing a more nuanced view of human emotions and interactions in Philippine society.
