The plot of the story is about a ghost and a family who are living together and are conscious of each other's presence. The ghost tries to evade the family while the family strives to coexist with her by giving her chores and engaging in conversation with the ghost. The family also thought of ghost removal solutions but never pushed through with the plans which resulted in them thinking of ways to share their home with the ghost. During their efforts to coexist with each other, the family still felt discomfort around the ghost and struggled to make the ghost a part of their lives. While the family was out, the ghost found herself interacting and conversing with their neighbor who is unaware of the situation. In the days they spent with each other, the ghost found the attention of a person that she has been longing for, exchanging stories and doing chores together. This gave the ghost a sense of love and understanding which she was in need of. Eventually, the family and ghost grew aware of each other and started building a relationship. In the end, the ghost and the family found a compromise with the ghost finally getting the attention and understanding she was looking for while the family finally finds peace and comfort inside their home. The ghost finally felt that she belonged with the family which resulted in the family being at peace because of the joy that the rebuilt relationship brought.

The main conflict of the story is the ghost needing a sense of connection and the family’s need for comfort in their home. In addition to this, Man vs Self was also seen in the story with the "ghost" battling with her emotions. The "ghost" felt lonely and miserable which is why she was seeking acceptance and love from other people so that she can open up and be helped.

The main protagonist of the story is the ghost which the story revolves around because of the effects her emotions have on the family and how the family deals with her. The ghost is a depiction of a depressed girl who is looking for someone to notice her and give her attention. The mother who is annoyed by the ghost with intentions to even remove her from the house still cares about the ghost and wants to help her but is afraid that something bad will happen if she decides to help. The daughter is someone who is aware of the ghost and her situation but is someone who does not want to do anything with it. She does not want to bother her and would much rather keep her peace. The younger brother is not afraid of the ghost and also wants to accompany the ghost. Lastly, the neighbor is someone who is not aware of the situation or depression of the ghost and still manages to interact with her. The neighbor does not know what she is going through and treats her like a normal person. These characters all have different perspectives on how they deal with the "ghost" and her situation. It shows the different situations in which people tackle someone who is battling depression.

The mood of the story is the feeling of loneliness and the need for a sense of attention and understanding. The story depicts the depression that the ghost is feeling through the acts she was doing that is seen in these lines

"The mother has attempted to discuss the subject with the ghost herself, but on being confronted this way, the ghost retaliated by camping out in the kitchen, reorganizing the silverware drawer, and eating all of the salted-caramel ice cream during the middle of the night."

"The ghost does: drink the vodka, leave burnt cheese on the oven rack, pace outside of bedrooms early in the morning, leave out old photo albums, play Patsy Cline and Gram Parsons records too often, scatter toast crumbs over counters, move chess pieces, weep over the children’s baby clothes, and, occasionally, climb into bed beside the mother, a long lump under the lavender floral comforter."

I decided to do further research from outer sources and found that these actions are all evidence of someone who is experiencing depression as excessive clutter, disorganization, and even retaliation are all symptoms of depression. (Dan, 2018)

The story also sets the mood by stating the emotions that the ghost is feeling, and exhibiting which is found in these lines

"The ghost lives in a home that is haunted, by her feelings of inadequacy, and by all of her missed opportunities. The home is swollen with the spirits of all the lives she never lived, the chances she never took."

"The ghost is a downer ghost, not a rage ghost. She does not throw things, or harm anyone, or raise whirlwinds. She does not open doors to demon worlds. She does not manifest in terrifying forms, or grow extra heads, or have powers, or appear without warning."

"The ghost, also: radiates feeling, intense, driving feeling. It surrounds her like an aura; it is strong and hungry, a sucking feeling the color of a sob."

The ghost's presence and negative emotions cause distress in the household which all highlight the isolation and sadness both parties experience.

Dan.

The story tells us about the problem of depression that is present especially in teenagers. A lot of people who experiences depression have trouble connecting and opening up to others. This story teaches us that human interaction and connection is important especially when it comes to helping people with depression. Having human connections provides us people to talk to and feel comfortable around which gives us a sense of happiness and security. Having connections like family and friends gives us people we can count on to give us love and support compared to being alone which only increases depression and the symptoms that come with. This is all illustrated in the story by how the family tries to coexist and connect with the ghost to help with her situation. Even though it took time, the family's actions shows the will and perseverance people have to help others who are in need. The ghost is a depiction of the sadness that people experience because of bad experiences that they encounter in their everyday lives.

This text is relevant to this word because it depicts loneliness and isolation. These are feelings that people feel when they lack human connection especially when they feel depressed and have the need for a sense of love and support. This story is a depiction of the pandemic that haunted the world. People were trapped in their homes, aimlessly walking around their houses with nothing to do except desire human connection. During the pandemic, people got depressed inside their homes because of the lack of human interaction which emphasizes the feeling of loneliness and isolation. The story then depicts the interaction between the ghost and the neighbor and the efforts of the family and the ghost to coexist with each other that when people support each other, they can overcome any challenge or quarrel together.
