As they really get the hang of it, I think asking students to incorporate the strategies into their writing assignments will help the quality of their work, as well as their ability to express themselves with clarity.

I think this allows for both creative writing and an opportunity for students to express their ideas without the stigma of "oh this is not right."  Teachers can create a lesson, allow students to contribute and then see if students fully mastered the lesson by incorporating a Because, But, So within notebook.
