Registration for EDT Residential Insight into University 2023 courses is now open.

Residential Insight into University courses are Industrial Cadets accredited summer schools which can help you decide which degree course might be right for you and also enhance your UCAS application. Courses run over 4 or 5 days where Yr12/S5-6 students get a taster of university life and an insight into a specific STEM subject. In summer 2023 these will include:

We recently announced an Open Day here at Access Creative College in Lincoln for Monday 24th October. Due to increased demand, this has now been extended to run between 4pm & 8pm.

Antibiotic resistance by pathogenic microorganisms is currently a major health concern, leading to a big rise of serious untreatable infections, especially in hospital environments. In addition, biofilms (slimy structures that microbes form around them) further protect the microbes against antibiotics, detergents and the attacks of our immune system.

Jaguar Land Rover has today announced it will hire around 300 apprentices in the UK in 2023 as the company continues to expand its talent pool as part of its transition to an electrified future.

The hiring drive means over 800 people will join Jaguar Land Rover’s early careers programmes in 2023, a 55% increase on last year’s figure and a new record intake for the company. We are running a Lincoln Medical School in-person, residential Summer School for students in Year 12 Tuesday 11^th – Friday 14^th July 2023. This opportunity is open to students in Year 12 who meet specific widening access criteria, meet the minimum GCSE criteria for our 6 year foundation course and are looking to apply to study medicine 2023/24.

Lincolnshire Training Hub are holding an event at Lincoln Medical School called 'Simulated Work Experience' for students applying to medicine.

This new re-vamped event aimed to help students who want to apply to Medicine gain insight into working in the NHS, and learn skills they will find helpful throughout their medical degree. We acknowledge that work experience has become increasingly hard to get, due to COVID and high prices held by other companies. Therefore, we started this event to help those in need.

The event will be held at the University of Lincoln Medical School on Saturday 15^th of July between 9am and 5:15pm.

The day will be split into two, with a free lunch provided in the middle. The sessions include:

Morning full of teaching:
What is the NHS?
What is the role of a doctor?
How to take a full medical history
How to fill out medical stationary e.g. prescriptions, medical notes
Free Lunch for all students
Afternoon simulations for students to practice all the skills they learnt:
Run their own GP clinic, completing tasks after each patient
Group simulation for a day in A+E

The course is offered by the Faculty of Law twice annually, beginning in the last week in January and the third week in July.

Must be living in or educated in Lincolnshire
Must be in year 12 and between the ages of 16-17 years of age on the day of the event
Must have a minimum of six GCSE passes at level 6 or above to include English, Maths, Chemistry and Biology or double science
Applicants should be predicted to achieve a minimum of BBB at A level, subjects to include Biology or Chemistry

Wilder Work Experience

This is a new approach for us to work experience opportunities and will allow more students to take part than ever before. Because we’re a medium-sized organisation, the number of placements we can offer each year is limited. To make sure everyone has a fair chance, we can only host placements during the specific weeks advertised and unfortunately can’t arrange dates outside these times.

To get the full benefit of the experience, students need to be available for all days of the placement.

You will spend time: doing practical conservation management, wildlife surveying, engaging with visitors to our reserves, and producing media content.

Where and when is it?

Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, Skegness, 6 – 10 July 2026

Plans are being put in place for Wilder Work Experience weeks at Far Ings in October 2026 and Whisby Nature Park in January 2027. Details will be announced here once they are confirmed.

Weekly Programme

The day usually runs from 9:30am to 4pm. Click on the button below to view the programme for the week at Gibraltar Point.

Gibraltar Point programme

During this placement, you will collaborate with fellow students on a real-world project designed to challenge your creativity and problem-solving abilities. You will be given a scenario and guided through the steps to research, analyze, and develop practical solutions. Throughout the week, you will have time to investigate the topic, exchange ideas, and build your presentation. At the end of the week, you will present your findings and solutions to the staff team you have been working with.

What you’ll gain

This experience isn’t just about nature – it’s about building real-life skills for the future, including:

Planning and organisation skills

Logistics

Support – Your main contact throughout the application process and work experience week will be a member of the education team. They will be supported by other members of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust staff, as you learn about different areas of our work.

Transport – We can collect work experience students from a suitable train/bus station closest to the site and arrange transport to our reserve, or students can meet us on site.

How to apply and interviews

Please complete the application form and submit it via email. If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to an informal, in-person interview, which will last for 30 minutes. This will allow you to meet some of the staff team you will be working with and see where your placement will be. It is a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for us and the place.
