The ideal rights are the right to not be enslaved, the right to free expression and the right to seek from other countries asylum from persecution
-The U.S idea of punishing specific criminals while aiding former enemies was different than the Treaty of Versailles because the U.S economy had became stronger. The U.S gave financial aid to Western European countries as a form of avoiding any political conflict. This was different because there was conflict between the countries but they were able to set aside political issues so it was more peaceful rather than chaos.

Nationalism in WW1 & WW2

Nationalism- provides a sense of identity with one’s nation or country, and the growth of this contributed to the rising tensions within Europe. While nationalism can serve as a unifying force within a country, it can also cause intense competition between nations each seeking to overpower each other. This was an important factor in causing World War I because many European nations competed for materials and markets in Africa and Asia, along with territorial disputes like in the Balkans in which Austria-Hungary and Russia would compete for this area while the intense nationalism of Serbs, Bulgarians, Romanians, and other ethnic groups led to demands for independence in the Balkans. Nationalism was also an important factor in World War II because German nationalism that began to develop before World War II was a major motivation behind many individuals who joined the Nazi Party, because of Adolf Hitler’s public speaking skills that he used to manipulate the German people into opposing other races, cultures, and etc.

Imperialism- an ideology in which a superior country gains political and economic control of foreign countries to extend their power/influence. An example of imperialism during World War I was the “Scramble for Africa” during the late 19th and early 20th century, when many European nations would compete for African and Asian colonies for its many raw materials and resources to benefit the imperial nations. Another example of imperialism in World War II is the Japanese attack on Manchuria to take this area’s raw materials and resources like iron and coal, and this would help set the stage for World War II because this invasion was the first direct challenge to the League of Nations.

Militarism- the glorification or belief by the people of government that a powerful military is necessary and should be aggressively used to defend or promote national interests. An example of pre-war militarism in World War I was Germany previous to it, because of its rivalry and jealousy to Great Britain, Germany created an army of about 5 million soldiers in 1914 to show its might. Another example of pre-war militarism in World War II is when militarists would take control of Japan because of the Great Depression, and would try to expand their growing empire throughout the Pacific that included a conquered China to provide it with the raw materials and markets for its goods.
