The mood is serious and sadness for the town. The author is trying to make us see that in the community there are rules, and if you can’t do that you won’t be there anymore. The quote is important, because the author wants us to see that in their town second chances don’t exist. It shows us how serious the community is, and if you can’t do the right thing you don’t belong. In the world if you do wrong by breaking the law, you are punished just like going to jail. In the story they are punished permanently for something small. This story had a significant impact on my thinking about punishment, here if you are punished for something small you just go to jail. If you do something there you don’t have anymore chances like we do now after our punishment.
