For my film poster 1 looked at various film posters within the genre of horror, to get inspiration from to include on my own product. An occurring convention within most posters is the dark filters & lack of text. I adopted this convention into my own product to make a basic yet effective and vivid horror poster

I used a low gradient for the background of the image, but made the forefront of the image brighter to make character stand out. This was also to follow the convention of binary oppositions within the film genre to highlight good vs evil. I tried not to challenge too many conventions, so my poster remained professional- looking as possible however a common convention to use on film posters is to have all the main protagonists on the front, however I wanted to challenge this and use he antagonist and one protagonist, which the storyline is based around. This is too set the story before before even knowing what the film is about. Also, on existing products they put the main actors names on the poster, however I wanted to challenge this and leave the names off to make it seem more realistic

When creating my magazine, I analysed existing magazine media products to look at typical conventions that i could include into my own product. A typical convention on most horror magazines is to have the masthead on the very top of the page along with story-lines on either send down the page. In my own product I wanted to keep the masthead at the top of the page to keep it conventional and professional looking.

As my horror magazine is a Halloween exclusive which adds a uniqueness to my products as its a special different to just normal magazines. I wanted to include a booster on the top of my image shaped as a pumpkin to make my product show have a sense of refinement to keep up with the theme I waned to pursue. I kept a typical convention of keeping the actors as the main focus on the magazine however, I didn’t use the most prevalent characters, decided to use a character in which the film is based all around. i dress the character in typical child like clothes with a fluffy toy to show the audience her young age.

Within my trailer, I use the conventions included in existing media products of the horror genre to convince my audience to watch my film. Throughout the trailer I used dark colour and gradients to make it look like a professional and typical horror film. I used many typical conventions including scenes with fire and children drawings and quick scenes with the antagonist. This will then prevail to the audience what type of genre my film is and my targeted audience will then want to watch it. However at the part of my trailer I added in soft scenes where everything will be okay at first, which may create enigmas for the audience at first and then as it continues and scenes become much darker, they will then begin to realise the horror genre included.

I used many enigmas throughout, such as a scene talking about getting an expert in, but left the expert out of the trailer, making the audience then want to go and find out more and then watch the film, thus leaving the audience with many mysteries in which they would want to solve. This is a typical convention used in many horror trailers I analysed beforehand.

I convention I decided to challenge was to have a news report clip, but instead of seeing the reporter, you just hear the audio whilst there are location scenes along with others. I did this to set the scene but without revealing too much. In my post production I included a montage of different scenes at the end which speed up to create excitement and tension within the audience, with the last seen being very loud and very close up, this will then scare the audiences but excite my target audience to want to watch more.

However I wanted to challenge conventions and keep all story lines on the right hand side of the page rather than either sides to make my image stand out more and look more effective. I also decided to use red and black colours throughout as the connote blood and death which is typical for my horror of genre. I used throughout all products so my audience understands its a cross media package
