I chose The Night Watch by Rembrandt van Rijn. I love the use of light in the painting where the two figures in the center are well lit as well as the lady in the background. For this lady, there is an intense shine or reflection that emits from her golden clothing. I feel that this piece of artwork reflects a lot of signature Baroque motifs. For one, this piece is imbued with a pensive, almost regretful emotion. Second, this piece reflects a singular moment of time and feels as if David had only recently severed the head of Goliath and is taking in the gravity of his actions. Third, this piece reflects a sobering perspective of an otherwise glorified myth.
