Alarm Stage is the first stage the initial reaction to stress. For example, your child running into the road your heart immediately starts to race, you start to sweat and you spring into action.
Resistance Stage is the second reaction to stress. You are still aroused and on edge but you are calming down. For example, if you are exposed to extreme heat the stress is doing its best to keep you alert and safe.
Exhaustion Stage is the third reaction your body has to stress. Your body starts to slow down to conserve your energy. For example, if you have a life threatening disease you are trying to stay alive and healthy.

In a fight or flight situation generally speaking I usually run. I'm not the person you read about in the newspaper that's the bug hero unfortunately. If there was a gunman shooting at my work I would most likely run and hide before I look around for people to save.
