In the 17th century, Grimoires led him to the Affair of the Poisons, in the years 1677-1682, when 200 people were accused of poisoning and using witchcraft, 36 innocent people were executed. The scandal reached as far as court, where the King's mistress, "Madame de Montespan", was charged with performing black magic to stay in his favor. Her accomplice was the notorious Catherine Monvoisin, known as "La Voisin", who was sentenced to death for witchcraft and poisoning and burned at the stake in 1680. A novel about the Affair of the Poisons was an enticing idea, but it was already a well-trodden field.

"Chris Womersley." Sydney Morning Herald [Sydney, Australia], 9 Sept. 2017, p. 18. World History in Context, link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/A503775231/WHIC?u=stev76221&xid=4a197fd3.

Mr. Miller's story about accusations of witchcraft in 17th-century has brought fear and caused John Procter, who was a good farmer, is in the same situation as Mr. Kazan and Mr. Miller were in when questioned by senator Joseph McCarthy about the names of those who had trusted in the communist system. He should have saved himself by confessing to an allegiance. To forces of darkness and name others he supposedly saw consorting with the devil. He, therefore, needs to remain silent and deprive his fanatical accusers of weapons to use against others. Time after time, we connect our past thoughts of witchcraft with the present. Carrying the fears into the modern world and projecting illusions that scare humans. Our brains make the connection of the past time when we feared Witchcraft and makes us fear it now even though we know it is not real.

Rothstein, Edward.

The main storyteller is Mother Shipton of Knaresborough in Yorkshire, England, who lived in the 16th century and was accused of witchcraft by Cardinal Wolsey. Through dance, music, slides, and dialogue, Black Sheep tells her story as well as those of women from Yorkshire, Essex, Cumbria and Massachusetts, some who claimed to have the power to see the future -- and some who never even knew what they had been accused of. People were scared of women using witchcraft. Based on court transcripts, histories, and oral tradition, 'Witchwork' allows the survivors to tell their stories of escaping torture and death.

"Old Mother Shipton's witch trial thickens plot at Playhouse." Belfast Telegraph [Belfast, Northern Ireland], 21 July 2010. World History in Context, link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/A232295022/WHIC?u=stev76221&xid=acc9c245.

Hocus pocus! Abracadabra! A couple weeks ago a a well presented act was preformed on Arthur Miller. Now, we have Miller's in site inhumanity to a man during the time of witchcraft trials in 17th century Massachusetts. During a witchcraft act several events occur to make a possible flow of interesting dialogue. After the specific remarks, Miller states that Mr Storry's arms hung down firmly by his side for some reason. After this, everyone was shocked that he was able to move his body according to specific statements. During the 17th century, witchcraft was used to make a belief of witches and devils.

Witchcraft in the 17th century was the belief and practice of magic. Throughout history, it has been found in various cultures across the world. A witches' magic is special because its power comes from the inside, and not through tools. Because witches had so much power, people blame the witches for things they could not explain such as disease, famine, and social problems. The ancient Roman Empire also believed in magic and curses, but when they were Christianized, any worship of Roman gods became associated with evil magic designed to cause mischief or hurt others. In ancient Europe, witchcraft was looked at by worshiping the Gods, or worshiping the devil. Some people hunted witches and tried to kill them, so there would be less power going around. Witches in the 17th century had a lot of power and were valued by many.

Muscato, Christopher. “What Is Witchcraft?” Study.com, Study.com, study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-witchcraft-definition-history-types.html.
