Choosing to rot in the guilt and torment caused by these affairs leads to “spiritual death” and an impaired ability to truly find oneself. Pi eventually makes the “grim decision” to leave the island, searching for a new beginning (participle). Forgiving your past is the only way to escape a “lonely half life.” The easy temptation of capitulating to guilt and suffering is strong; however, it will (; transition , ) only leave you stranded on a “murderous island” (154).
