Students join their class sections through My AP.

Students need to sign in to myapcollegeboard.org using their College Board account to enroll in each class section using the unique join code(s) provided by the teacher for each AP class they’re taking. If they're only taking an exam without taking the corresponding course, the process will be the same, but they'll get the join code from the AP coordinator at the school where they'll be taking the exam.

Yes, you’ll need to join an exam only section in My AP in order to have an exam ordered for you. Ask your AP coordinator for help with joining an exam only section at the beginning of the school year if you plan to self-study for an AP Exam

What if two exams I want to sign up are scheduled for the same date and time?

If two of the exams you want to take are scheduled for the same time, ask your AP coordinator for information about taking one of the exams during the late-testing period. You may still register for both.

This year, 28 AP Exams will be given digitally in Bluebook. The digital AP Exams can be either fully digital or hybrid digital. For the remaining non-Bluebook AP Exams, the modes vary.

Fully Digital AP Exam Subjects

Test Previews in Bluebook Are Now Available for All Digital AP Exams

Test previews are now available for all 28 digital AP® Exam subjects in Bluebook. These include previews for fully digital AP Exams and hybrid digital AP Exams.

To access test previews, educators and AP students will first need to download the Bluebook digital testing application, log in with their College Board account, and click the Test Preview card.

Breaks

During the break between Sections 1 and 2 of your AP Exam (if applicable), or during any unscheduled breaks, you are not permitted to:

Consult textbooks, notes, teachers, or other students
Use any electronic or communication devices (including cell phones), for any reason

You may not leave the building at any time during the exam administration—even during scheduled breaks.

Remember, whether it’s during breaks or after the exam, you must not communicate anything about the exam content to anyone, including your classmates and your teachers.

Late Testing

If something unexpected happens that prevents you from taking the AP Exam on the date you were scheduled for or you want to take exams that are scheduled for the same time slot, you takie an exam on a later date.

Exam Timing and Structure

Most exams are 2–3 hours long.

The first part of the exam usually consists of multiple-choice questions.

You will choose 1 of 4–5 answer choices for each question.
Your total exam score on the multiple-choice section is based only on the number of questions answered correctly. You won’t receive or lose points for incorrect answers or unanswered questions.

The second part of the exam usually consists of free-response questions that require you to generate your own responses. Depending on the exam, your responses could be in the form of an essay, a solution to a problem, or a spoken response.

The speaking portion of the exam will be recorded on a Digital Audio Capture (DAC) App running on iPads or Chromebooks

You can take an AP Exam each time it’s offered. Exams are administered once a year in May. Your score report will include your scores for all the AP Exams you have taken unless you request that one or more scores be withheld or canceled.
