I like how John Dewey believes that school is a place for students to learn how to handle real life situations. He has the philosophy of "learning by doing." This is what I believe. No student should feel discouraged or un-included because of another student's actions. my expectations for student progress is that students should be learning everyday. Whether a student progresses fast or slow, progress is still progress. No student should show no signs of progress after a lesson or unit. If that its he case, I'll change some of my own teaching strategies. I will encourage positive behaviors through rewarding students, whether it's a physical reward like candy or just a compliment. Winging an assignment or not planning you day out will only cause a chaotic and stressful day in the classroom. Students will know that they are expected to do their work and not play around if you have effective planning and management. Students follow what the teacher models. The same goes for instruction. If you encourage students to engage themselves in discussion, they will be active. If you scare students or punish them for speaking their opinion, students will close up and never speak. Schedules for the day, classroom behavior, lesson plans, and extra homework incase a students forgets theirs will be available on the website. Another way to keep parents involved are brag tags. Students can take these home to show praise from their teacher and to highlight student progress. Class Dojo is another active website top highlight student progress and to keep parents involved. Parents can keep track of how their child is behaving as well. One obvious way to keep parents involved in the classroom is through conferences. Instead of only having one or two each month, plan conferences throughout the month, even if it's a video conference.

The room should look welcoming for students and should be physically appealing. Desks should be arranged to encourage collaboration. There shouldn't be a lot of traffic issues, meaning the classroom should have a good flow. The walls should be covered in student work so that the walls aren't bare and boring. Students should also know the rules and procedures. They should understand that rules should be followed when given. Students should have goals for themselves and should set their own expectations. They should always be engaged so that their minds stay on the right track. When there is a learning experience going on, students should be out of their seats participating. Students and the teacher should treat each other with respect. The students and I will come up with a set of rules together. This gives the students responsibility and will help them better remember the rules since they created them. For students to become acquainted with the procedures, I will always start the class with reminders on the board. This will get students in the routine of how we start the day. I will also have classroom jobs. These jobs will change every week. When students achieve their own personal goals, they have achieved "effective student achievement". The characteristics of a good assignment includes making the audience and purpose of the assignment clear. A good assignment should provide models as examples for students. The assignment should have direct and clear instruction. There are six levels of Bloom's Taxonomy: Evaluation, synthesis, analysis, application, comprehension, and knowledge. Each assignment should include one level of Bloom's Taxonomy. This way the students have a clear cut assignment they have to do and teachers have a way of evaluating it. There are four level in DOK: Recall, skill/concept, strategic thinking, and extended thinking. Collaboration: Students will have many chances to work with each other. Padlet, Google Docs, and other websites are useful in helping with collaboration through technology. Students will always be in groups, never in rows by themselves. 
Creativity: Arts, technology, and physical integration are ways to showcase creativity. Students should always have opportunities to be creative. Writing songs or sketchnoting are two examples of how I will incorporate creativity in my classroom.
Communication: Students need to feel comfortable communicating openly with their teachers and students. I want students to always have an opportunity to speak in class and have a voice.
Critical Thinking: The purpose of school is to help students grow as people and as thinkers. With this beings said, all lessons will have a critical thinking component. If students aren't challenged to think, they will never grow as learners.
Community: In my opinion, having a community inside your classroom should be the most important C. If students feel safe and comfortable inside the classroom, students are more likely to interact and learn. Students often learn better through the arts than they do from sitting in the classroom- so why not intertwine the two? I will integrate dance by allowing students to create dances for the subjects that they learn. I will integrate music through song parodies and raps made by the students to showcase their knowledge. I will integrate theatre through plays and readers theater for each subject. For example, students may have a readers theatre for Civil Rights. I will integrate technological artszwas through things such as Padlet, Quizizz, Skype, Google Expeditions and Green Screens. I will integrate visual arts by allowing students to use build and create objects that showcase their learning. There are so many ways to integrate arts into the curriculum. In my classroom, I want each child to be exposed to physical activity all the time. One example of how I will incorporate this into the classroom is through movement. Students will get "brain breaks" throughout the day where they will be able to get up, move, stretch, dance, do jumping jacks, and other things to give their brains a break. GoNoodle is a fabulous website to use to allow students to get up and dance to popular kid-friendly songs. Also, students can have "walk and talks" which are used for discussion. This will get students up and moving, along with promoting thoughtful discussions. It is very important for kids to get at least 60 minutes of exercise per day. I will also go to Master Series Events and learn how to become a better teacher. It is important that a teacher never stops growing.
