"... and my father had filled several public situations with honour and reputation. He was respected by all who knew him for his integrity and indefatigable attention to public business" Page 23

This quote reflects the theme of parental responsibilities because it describes how Victor's parent was respected and honorable, and was overall great dad, which led Victor to view the world calmly and philosophically. However, this provides a stark contrast between the treatment of Victor and his father to the relationship between the creature and his creator. While Victor grew up with respect and guidance from a parental figure, the creature did not, which led to his eventual hatred for humans.

"He had come forth from the hands of God a perfect creature, happy and prosperous, guarded by the especial care of his creator." p.121

This quote reflects the theme of parental responsibility by somewhat describing an ideal parental figure. The perfect parent is perceived to be a "God" by creating a being that is happy and prosperous, and then continuing to guard and care for this creation. However, Victor abandons his creation and neglects his parental responsibilities. This provides a contrast to how the creature deserved to be treated by a parent, how he actually was, and how this may have led to a different outcome in his life.

"When my father became a husband and a parent, he found his time so occupied by the duties of his new situation, that he relinquished many of his public employments, and devoted himself to the education of his children." p. 24

This quote emphasizes how the parent's commitment to educating their children directly influences the success of a child's future. While Victor considered himself a "failure" for creating such a hideous monster, he was able to create life, which is beyond an extremely impressive task. Because of the support he received from his father regarding his education, he was able to flourish throughout his life and be a very bright man. This contrasts the lack of the creature's education and how he had to teach himself everything he knew, rather than having a parent guide/teach him.

Professor M. Waldman motivated Victor to continue his passions by sharing his ideas and giving advice without being arrogant and being open to criticism. This is an important trait of a guardian or idol because it allows the student/child to be influenced but not subject to blatantly agreeing or following blindly so that they can form their own opinions.

"No father could claim the gratitude of his child so completely as I should deserve theirs." p.42

This quote refers to Victors' attitude and anticipation toward his creation. He speaks about how excited and proud he will be of his creation, even more so than an ordinary father. This is because he will have birthed this child by making it with his own hands. However, this is an intense contrast to the actual feelings of disgust and fear he has towards his final creation. The emotions he felt before the creature came to life, is what the monster craved throughout his time alive. If his feelings of gratidute remained consistent after his creation came to life, then the creature may have led a different, more gentle life.

Victor is disappointed in the creature that he has created, calling it a "wretch" and letting him go off on his own in the wild. This leads to the creature experiencing the cold and bitterness of the world which then leads to the creature taking out his anger on Victor.

This explains this because Victor describes his father as the least dictatorial parent who lived on the earth. Because of this, Victor has grown to feel that the world revolves around him and this influences the way that he perceives the world.

While Victor was upset, his father cared a lot about his health and well-being. Because of this, Victor seems to be compassionate throughout the story; knowing that his own emotions have a large effect on his loved ones. However, the creature was not given the same kind of love, and in regards, never learned how his actions had can impact others.

This quote can be seen as guidance to a parent on how to teach their children to handle situations that may be difficult. This quote suggests that when entering the "house of mourning" or facing hardships, it's crucial to maintain empathy and kindness toward those who care for and support you. To parents, this could be teaching their children to acknowledge and navigate through their emotions while also treating their peers with kindness and respect.

The creature, like a child, seeks understanding, compassion, and acceptance from Victor, who has become a parental figure. Victor Frankenstein, as the creator and thus the "parent" of the creature, abandons his creation, denying it the love, guidance, and acceptance it craves. This leads to the creature's despair and eventual turn to violence, underlining the importance of fulfilling parental responsibilities.
